Woman struck by car in Issaquah Highlands
ISSAQUAH, Wash. -- A pedestrian walking her dog Sunday evening sustained life-threatening injuries when she was hit by a car.
Issaquah Police Cmdr. Scott Behrbaum said the woman is a 59-year-old Issaquah Highlands resident. They are not yet releasing her name.
The accident happened after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Park Drive Northeast and 15th Avenue Northeast in Issaquah.
Witnessses said a gray Mazda was turning left out of a residential area, heading downhill, when it hit the woman and her dog in the crosswalk.
"I heard a large crash, and so I turned around and I saw the lady, like, hit the ground," said Justin Watts, a teenager who was at a pool across the street. "I heard someone screaming 'Oh My God!'"
The dog was crushed to death under the tire, said witnesses, while the woman struck the windshield. Witnesses said the man driving the Mazda immediately got out to help, and was performing CPR on the woman when paramedics arrived.
Because the fire station is just three blocks west of the incident, rescue crews were on scene almost immediately.
Dr. Doron Feinsilber said he was exercising across the street, and by the time he ran over, the woman was unconscious and not responding to paramedics.
"They were still in the middle of chest compressions, and she didn't look that stable," Feinsilber said. "I see people in the emergency room all the time, and she looked much worse than what I see."
Medics transported the woman to Harborview Medical Center, where she was said to be in serious condition this morning.
Sergeant Jeff Johnson said the woman had no ID on her and that made it hard to identify her initially. He said the driver was very cooperative with the investigation.
