Broken water main
AUBURN, Wash. – A broken water main has flooded roads and parking lots in Auburn. Residents in the area also woke up to no or low water pressure.
Officials say the main broke apparently after a fire hydrant was hit by a vehicle on 8th Street NE near the intersection with F Street NE.
A nearby resident said she heard a loud noise and then, sometime later, when she looked outside she saw water in the roadway.
When police arrived on the scene, water was gushing from the main and had already washed away part of the sidewalk.
The pastor of the Victory Fellowship Church says he received a call at around 4 a.m. telling him he needed to go to the church because of flooding problems.
Fire department personnel tell reporters the parking lot of the nearby Northwood Square Apartment complex is also flooded.
Utility crews have been called to shut off the water. People in the area may have to deal with low water pressure until the break is repaired. City officials were hoping to have fully restored by noon.
Police closed the 8th between Auburn Way and Harvey Road NE. It's believved the street would remain closed for much of the day.
