Motorcyclist taunts pursuing trooper after crash, says WSP

TUKWILA, Wash. – A motorcyclist allegedly stopped to taunt a pursuing Washington State trooper after the trooper crashed and rolled his vehicle several times.

The Washington State Patrol says it happened at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on northbound Interstate 5 at the exit to State Route 599.

WSP says the trooper reported seeing a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph and began to pursue. At some point, the trooper lost control, struck a barrier and rolled the car five or six times.

The 46-year-old trooper was conscious and alert after the crash, but was pinned.

WSP says as the trooper was calling 911, two motorcyclists returned. One was identified as the possible suspect that the trooper was pursuing. WSP says the suspect parked two lanes away from the trooper and began to taunt him by laughing and yelling at him.

When the sound of sirens approached, the suspects fled.

WSP has not released a description of the motorcyclist.

The trooper had to be cut from his vehicle. He suffered a concussion and some bumps and bruises.

why stop for washington state patrol when you can just encourage them to chase you until the inexperienced wsp veteran of 22yrs crashes? i miss the good ol days where you could trust police and making money for a state on the verge of bankruptsy just wasnt an issue. being taught to respect police, it took years of practically being harrassed to tempt me into running...and why wouldnt it? when police would rather write you a ticket for negligence because of the increased fine rather than write a ticket just for the 25 over the limit you were going you start to ask yourself why? why? money.the fine is much higher!... not all the time, sometimes people deserve what they get but a lot of the time its pure dollars and cents. do your research?...so. when a trooper tries to pull you over for a wheelie and you know that whether its wreckless driving or eluding police you are still in big trouble and in your mind the trooper becomes enemy #1 and you are left with only one way out...RUN RUN RUN.

We all learned that when a Cop is in a rollover accident chase music starts playing and then after a cut scene he climbs out of his car and goes 'Doooh"!

PTC510 some of us dont lay around waiting for the cops to come save us. Anyone with half a brain in thier head knows when you really need the cops they will be at least 5 minutes away, and guess what, in an emergency you dont have 5 minutes. Unfortunately you do not seem like the kind of man who could handle his business, so you my friend will be the one lying on the ground in a pool of blood wishing for the cops to come save you because you are a sheep.

Funnystuff and kawaninja if you are saying that the problem was only created by two bikers, THEN TURN THEM IN and let justice run its course. If you were all so INNOCENT and did nothing wrong. let the courts punish the ones who did wrong. That is what an upstanding person would do. I guess we should not expect that though right? I really hope that some day you are not lying on the road because someone hit you on your rice burner wishing WSP was there to help. That will be a very sad day for you sir.

Thats what im saying.. I will give my info and i think all the 30 to 40 bikes that were there and wittnesses should come out....and testify... This trooper needs to loose his job.. He made so many bad choices.. it was either he was gonna kill someone for a mistaminor or crash. And the ppl saying the bikes made him wreck.... The wittnesses said they seen the trooper driving recklessly and witnesses at the scene said no one came back and taunted the "injured officer". i cant believe WSP.

Wow another person who really REALLY there. Maybe what 5 or 6 of us who were actually there and have the same story are telling the truth. And yes good point funnystuff what he did was reckless endangerment, attempted vehicle homiside if you wanna get technical. And 22 yrs on the force huh. Well my question to him is 22 yrs later hes doing things like this? Maybe time to retire before all the witnesses come forward and you lose everything. I am thinking about putting my face, bike, even social secrurity number if I gotta because im not scared to say what really happened last night. The news @ 5pm today was cool, but the real story of actual EYE WITNESSES need to come forward and tell Washington what really happened! I am looking forward to talking tommorrow!

I am not a big fan of WSP, 3 tickets for 1-5 mph over the limit in 2 years does not endure them to me, but this WSP was doing his job. If the bikers were doing 100MPH, and the WSP was chasing at the same or more, in heavy traffic, is not a smart plan, but never the less a plan. It sounds like the bikers do the same routine every week. So why not the extra man hours in a special enforcement. obviously, the bikers are endangering themselves and others. The WSP made a mistake, but at the same time the bikers that are doing these things should be cought and punished. You can cry foul for police that over extend their authority, but do not forget that they are fighting a loosing battle to crime as well. Yes, John Q they can pull over but the real law breakers do seam to get away, and the public should endorse the police cracking down on the real offenders, so they stop pulling us over for the lousy 1-5 over the limit. That will mean more of these incidents, then so be it.

This is soooo hillarious.... what if that STATE TROOPER killed a motorcycleist when he was trying to run those bikers off the road ... I was an eyewitness behind the state patrol and what i seen was attempted murder by that " officer of the law". Wow and it says he is 46 yrs old and on the force for 22 years.. The trooper was in the right lane and when ne biker tryed to ride passed him he tried to hit them with a 5000 or whatso ever pound car.. How r the bikers sappose to know the trooper was there for the bikes. Im sure these bikers were scared for there lives and im sure thats why they took off. THERE WAS NO ONE SPEEDING OR TRYING TO FLEE B4 THIS SO CALLED TROOPER TRIED TO COMMIT MURDER!!! SO STATE TROOPERS CAN KILL OVER A WHEELIE.... ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IS SO RIDICULOUS THAT YOU PPL ARE TRING TO DEFEND THIS TROOPER.. So troopers r saying that its all motorcycle riders because of two motorcycles. Something else i wanted to point out is that washington state also has one of the highest gasoline taxes is another reason for the high prices at the pump. This is why they will not raise limits as well the more fuel we use the more tax they collect. With the increased congestion because of the washington zombie drivers due to the slow speeds 30-60mph it creates more pollution than cars getting where there need much sooner at higher speeds 60-80mph. Why Do you think in texas the speed limits there are 80mph, because that is where the oil companies are headquatered my friend. 70 on two lane highways in Montana too, a major oil producing state, try driving it over beartooth pass. 75mph on the Interstates, (they had no limit 1995-1999), hell a speeding ticket doing 90mph is 40 bucks and you can pay the trooper on the spot. Also it takes 30 tickets before you loose your liscense unlike washington's 3 tickets in 1 year.

I just id put my last .02$ in I am personally going to interview with the reporter and put out the story thats really behind this. I couldnt make it today because I have to work but I will be seeing him tommorrow and doing so. Wsp will show the public the video unless they are trying to hide the cops bad behavior and recklessness, which I am certain the cop was being reckless if he flipped his car 4 or 5 times. These bikes only weigh 400 lbs. How could the biker force a two ton car off the road? Doesn't add up. And the tale of the taunting is beyond fishy, unless their is video of it from the cop car, which I guarantee there won't be.

How many of you so called eye-witnesses and by-standers stopped to make sure the trooper was ok? I'm sure they were all ready and willing to break the law by calling 911 on their cell while passing by instead. I dont think anyone in there right mind would have stopped to help an idiot. I also noticed the side windows were busted out, how come he could not just climb out? Lay-Off the doughnuts there fatboy and go back to driving school with the rest of washington state. It is high time we raised the speed limits which were intentionally kept in place since the 1970s oil crisis 55 mph limit, back when almost all cars were gas guzzling and carborated, most cars get there best gas mileage @ 70-80 mph thanks to modern computerized fuel injection. Washington State keeps its lower speed limits so they can collect unreasonable fines and dictate who has liscenses, with 3 tickets in a year and your suspended.Raise the limits and your gas prices will drop thanks to efficency and less congestion

When the blue gun thugs decide to play "car chase" with real cars they greatly endanger the public. Virtually every car chase ends with serious property damage. One in 5 ends with significant injury. One in 25 ends in death. When the blue gun thugs choose to play "car chase" they choose to cause damage or death, usually to some other citizen who wasn't involved. .... I have to agree with david5198, most who hate cops, hate them because they were caught doing something wrong and got a ticket or were arrested. Not that the cops don't ever make mistakes as they are only human but people like bobknows(nothing at all) need to keep their ignorance to themselves. As several shows have had callers call in, it seems that this group of bikes was clearly in the wrong. And when one of your buddies took off, you should have gotten the heck out of the way! You were impeading the officer in the line of duty when he was trying to go after the dude who took off. The mear fact that this DumbS came back to laugh at the officer should be enough to get some good jail time for him. But seriously, there are good bikers, it is just that the moron bikers make every biker look bad.

Alright so before I post what I saw I dont want it to sound like any of this that happened is ok by any means. The bikes that were doing wheelies sure in the wrong. When I saw the state patrol man hit his lights not red and blues but the yellow back lights, a bike did speed up. The state patrolman then started swerving at the bikes that had nothing to do with this. So I have to ask one question "is that okay?" To swerve at a motorcycle when if that bike had crashed they probably wouldnt have made it! And for those who are involved in the enforcement system please dont just be one sided. I was glad to see the officer was okay. But in the same sense I think he should be suspended for the reckless driving he did toward the bikes that werent doing anything wrong at all.

How do you explain me being stopped twice, one for illegal use of a carpool lane and a month later for 80 in a 70 on my way to Portland and no ticket, just a warning. Doesn't anybody know how to behave anymore? The level of ignorance and arrogance on both sides of this issue is staggering. Anyone that has that much contempt for others that they would wish harm on either the police or motorcyclists is asking for a karmic sandwich. I don't know if this is the case yet, the facts will become clear in coming days, but anyone that knowingly rides like a hooligan and endangers others deserves to lose their driving privileges, their vehicles and freedom. If you don't know how to play well with others then you shouldn't be allowed on the playground. That goes for law enforcement too. However this turns out no one, and i mean no one wins. This makes people mad at innocent riders that obey the law, and the cops will no doubt be harder on us all, including all you drivers of other vehicles, because again they feel even more threatened by the public they are charged with protecting.

All the cops do today is write as many citations as they can, with the state revenue in the position it is in. They have been instructed to cite everyone and everything if they want to keep their jobs. I hadnt had a ticket in almost 9 years and then BAM last year I get 2 in a row for petty speeding (less than 10 over). You used to get a warning, not anymore. The minimum tickets used to be $37.00, now they are $124.00!!! What does that tell you. And by the way red light cameras are for safety, not revenue....HAHAHA!

Since it is "against the law" for me to defend myself from most things that don't involve my immediate life or my family being threatened what choice do I have but to call the police? If it were legal for me to beat someone with a ball bat as they were stealing from me I would but since that is not legal, thus illegal to defend my own property I have to call the police don't I. The laws make it impossible for us to defend ourselves so we must rely on the almighty police to protect us from all these criminals they refuse to punish therefore making them career criminals. I have even seen these jerks do wheelies on the freeway? I think Stae Patrol should have a new policy to respond without lights/sirens to a motorcyclist who has been reported as speeding should respond in a safe manner without lights and sirens. State Patrol are the ones who have to clean up the mess and notfy the next of kin for these moroons.

The truth of what happened is on the DASH CAM tape. Along with the descriptions of the bikes and riders. Don't worry the tapes are protected like a "black box" in an aircraft. The WSP has been chasing these riders for years and KING 5 did a story about it a couple of years ago when a viewer sent in video of this group. The riders start out in Renton every Tuesday evening during the summer.

Oh I realize the lawmakers and the law enforcers are different ententes. But don't think for a second the WSP, Sheriffs ect ect ect don't have a say so in thinking up the laws. If the law enforcers were true law enforcers they would enforce ALL the laws. We all break the law just about every time we drive a car. Ever turn without a blinker, drive on the fog line, have a light bulb out on your car? Of course you have, I hate the fact the cops get to pick and choose who gets tickets and who doesn't. Thats a judge's job not a cop. I never denied the fact the bikes that do this are wrong, gives all bikes a bad name, they should be ticketed and have to pay the fine. I have a different take on this story. While there are a lot of hot shot cops who are doing to much high speed chasing lately across the entire country, ( I read a lot of news) The guys are on the bikes are not only cowards for running away, they should have helped the officer out of the car or see if he was OK ,and give themselves up. That was the thing to do. the Judge would have of course found them guilty on some counts, but would have thrown others out if they had done the right thing in the end. In the end, the bikers will either be caught, or suffer a fate that most of us can see. They will either kill themselves because of arrogance and recklessness , or kill some innocent people.

It's sad to hear that some of these commenters "hate" all motorcyclists, when in fact there are those, like me, that enjoy riding and take great care and concern for the law. I don't ride a sport bike, I ride a touring bike and believe me when I say I've been cut off even on my cycle by sport bike riders. It even happend on 599 as a swarm of sport bike riders passed me, some on there rear wheels at over 70 mph, it forced me off to the right. It does happen to riders on motorcycles too. I respect the road in my car and on my motorcycle. I get upset with the crazy riders too but there time will come, not by me but by there own carelessness, its just sad that others will or could get hurt from there stupidity. The state patrolman didn't deseve to be taunted, he was only doing what he is trained to do. Maybe he could have sent a message to another patrolman to watch out for this person coming his way. A sport bike is much quicker and able to manuver faster than any car.

EYEWITNESS: I was driving home with Rentongal on 405 and we saw the pack of approx 30 motorcyclists with 5-10 of them popping wheelies and staying up on one wheel in three lanes of traffic while they were driving with cars all around them. We couldn't believe our eyes and knew that an accident was going to happen because of it. Rentongal told me that she had seen the trooper off the highway right before we saw the motorcyclists so we were hoping they would get busted before someone got killed. They were driving extremely recklessly so the cop had to do something before more help could come. Yes, he probably shouldn't have gone on a high speed chase but the whole story wasn't told about what these cyclists were doing before the chase.

While I absolutely with a passion hate motorcycle riders because they think they own the freeway and can't in ANY way follow the rules of the road (just yesterday I was on 520 at the Kirkland/Bellevue interchange and one of them rode the shoulder because god forbid he wait 15 seconds at the merging point, and almost caused an accident), I still find it amusing that the cop (who has to have driving skills under his belt), managed to roll his car five or six times. That's gotta be a record somewhere, give him a medal for that.

I've had bikers cut me off thinking they own the road and they think they are hot stuff performing stunts on the highway. I dont know how many times I've had close calls with them cutting me off on the highway. I am sure there are two sides to the story and the media isn't telling us all of it. Another example of the "new" one-percenters making a bad name for all Motorcyclists. It use to be that one-percenters were the outlaw bikers, like the Hells Angels, now it is the kids on sportbikes who care little for others, and often are lacking in basic training on riding skills. They are generally self taught riders, or taught to ride by other un-skilled riders. They have no understanding of risk, or risk management and place everyone on the road at risk. To come back and taunt the officer trapped in his car is the ultimate example of crass, self-centered behavior. Whether you support the WSP or not, the actions of the bikers was and is unacceptable.

We saw the pack of 30 motorcycles right before they passed the police car. They were doing wheelies at high speeds accross all 3 lanes of traffic! I'm all for a good adrenaline rush, but when I FREQUENTLY see the crotch rockets fly down the freeway on one wheel in the middle of rush hour...can you say "death wish" for themselves or the car they hit when the wipe out on the freeway?? No one can expect the cop to just sit there and do nothing as they passed him. Although, if he was "leading the group" at a very low speed down the freeway (the part I didn't see) and not allowing them to pass, I'm not sure what he was expecting to accomplish. What did he intend to do once they were following him? For the cyclests to turn around and taunt the officer after his car had flipped is tastless and childish. Sounds like there was a lot of testosterone flowing and egos that got in the way!

I've done ride-alongs with smart, seasoned cops and they never chase sport bikes. Can't catch them and the idiots that ride these things doing 100 on freeways don't usually live long anyway. Sounds like a rogue cop making law enforcement look bad. chasing a motorcycle.....really? even in EVOC they warn you that your not driving a sports car.

I was in the pack of motorcycles that was there and the police officer in the article... tried to run down at least three motorcyclists that I saw before he sped off chasing one sa I rounded the corner... I saw that he had crashed...in my opinion it serves him right being that he tried to potentialy kill those bikers. Im not saying they were in the right but he was definitely doing wrong. I am only stating what I saw and I am not attacking the officer for any reason nor am I defending the bikers for their actions.

Title should read: Trooper Taunts Motorcyclists and crashes. As an EYE WHITNESS, the trooper was traveling at a very low rate of speed in front of a large group of motorcycles and would swerve into the path of any cyclist who would try to pass him, and when one finally got past he gave chase, reaching speeds of over 130mph according to multiple motorcycle witnesses and crashed after failing to negotiate a curve at a high rate. I support our law enforcement community, but this trooper was looking for a chase. The cyclist should not have run, but the officer was dangerously close to the rear tire of the motorcycle and the rider feared for his safety. NOBODY was speeding before the chase. car can't keep up with a motorcycle and i see it everday cops can't drive any better the the rest of Seattle
