A Washington State Trooper shot a suspect in the shoulder when the man refused to to surrender early Sunday.

The incident began at about 6:30 a.m. when a blue Ford pick-up was seen driving recklessly northbound on I-5 and a WSP trooper attempted to pull the driver over near the 128th St. exit.  The driver did not pull over and continued driving northbound at speeds of up to 90 mph.

Troopers deployed a spike strip near the 88th St. exit in Marysville. It's believed to have damaged at least one of the vehicle's tires.

The driver continued traveling northbound on I-5 and exited the freeway at Smokey Point onto eastbound SR 531 and then turned onto to southbound SR 9.   The vehicle then exited SR 9 and pulled into a gas station parking lot.

The State Patrol says when troopers followed the suspect into the parking lot, he attempted to hit them with his vehicle.

A trooper fired on the suspect, hitting him in the shoulder.

Troopers were not hurt.
