OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Thurston County homicide detectives arrested a 27-year-old Olympia woman for the death of a 58-year-old man.
The woman was arrested for first degree murder and booked into the Thurston County jail after admitting to the police and a counselor that she killed the victim.
The man and woman were in a relationship, and the woman told police she decided to kill the man Monday night after "some sexual activity."
When the man was distracted, the woman cut his throat as many as six times, but he did not die. Struggles continued between the pair, until the man passed out and the woman wrapped an extension cord around his throat.
The department was first alerted when a employee with the state's Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) called saying a mental health client of theirs had said she had stabbed someone.
Detectives were called to a home in the 3800 block of Sunset Beach Road NW Tuesday night where they found the deceased individual.
After checking out a couple of addresses, police ended up at the home on Sunset Beach Road NW. The home was unlocked when they arrived and detectives found blood throughout the place. The deceased male was later found.
During the investigation, the suspect checked herself into the mental health ward at Providence St. Peter Hospital.
