ABERDEEN, Wash. -- For the second time this week, thieves broke into an Aberdeen animal shelter and stole two dogs.

The first burglary at the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Grays Harbor happened Sunday night when someone broke out a window.

Then on Thursday night, thieves forced open the front door of the mostly volunteer clinic.

An animal control officer found Buster, one of the dogs that was stolen Sunday, about 10 blocks from the shelter.

The staff at the shelter worries whether the other three dogs, two lab mix puppies and a 7-year-old chihuahua, may be sold by the thieves.

"You worry about the dogs because those kind of people are not going to take care of the dogs," said Val West, manager of PAWS of Grays Harbor.

For more information, visit the PAWS of Grays Harbor Facebook page.

@ whispah: PAWS is run on donations and good hearted volunteers only ;so for them to have the extra funds to put cameras in would be virtually impossible. Perhaps if you can afford them a your home and be able to check from your office on the happenings at your house you could be so kind hearted as to help PAWS out by donating the camera set-up and having them installed for them. Remember PAWS runs on donations only.

Odd that nobody saw this happening as PAWS is on one of the main drags.

Sir_Real what good would an electronic ID collar do??? It can be removed. Microchipping would be useless too, cause no one is going to ask a vet to scan thier stolen pet. it is NOT done automatically whenever a vet visit occurs, it has to be asked for. The only way a vet will scan a pet is if they are asked to do it, or the person tells them they found the dog and then the vet is obliged to scan to see if it has a chip. The only other option is expensive, sort of like a lojack for pets. It is a satellite tracking chip. Once stolen, the owner can have the tracking chip activated, and then the tracking can begin. How about the shelter putting up video cameras after the first break-in? why wasnt that done??? why wait till a crime occurs to install cameras, doesnt make sense. Install cameras and then wait for the culprits. I personally have cameras in my home where i can log on to a computer a work and see live cams in my home. If anyone is in my house, I can call police from work.

Hopefully being sold will be what happens. It's a kinder alternative to them being used as bait dogs. :(

Hey folks at PAWS, when you lock up at night to go home, let the Pitt Bulls roam freely....

They should put a barkcode, a QR code collar that's been around for a few years, on their dogs.
