TACOMA, Wash. - An eighth grader in Tacoma got a toy gun as a gift from his math teacher last month.
"It's ridiculous," said Jawan Campbell, the boy's stepfather.
"Especially with all the gun violence across the country it's setting the wrong example," said Campbell.
Campbell's stepson said he was given a choice of gifts to pick from from his math teacher at First Creek Middle School.
The district said the teacher made a bad decision when she agreed to give away the toy gun.
A district spokesperson said the toy gun and other toys given to the boy's classmates came from a student teacher.
The student teacher got the toys while on a field trip with another class.
She and those students got the toys as gifts after attending a taping of "New Day Northwest," which airs on KING 5.
