FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Police say a 38-year-old woman is dead after her 42-year-old husband shot her at Calvary Lutheran Church on S. 330th Street in Federal Way Wednesday shortly before 6 p.m.

According to Federal Way Police, the Lakewood couple was at the church for a counseling session during which the husband shot his wife. He reportedly fired his handgun several times at the victim.

The husband then called 911 and waited for police. He was taken into custody without incident.

"It is something that doesn't occur that often," said police spokesman Ray Bunk, "to have a suspect actually call and admit what happened."

The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center where she later died.

Police blocked off the entire block around the church after the shooting.

"It is a horrible thing to have happen anyplace, and unfortunately we know who the person was and that makes it more difficult for people who were here," said one woman who appears to be a member of church leadership. "But it would be sad regardless if we knew the person."

No one else was hurt at the church at the time of the shooting.

Police are trying to determine a motive and if the shooting happened during the counseling session or after.

The suspect and the victim have not yet been identified.

I agree with billthaman12 (for the most part). I am female from Oregon, 39, and three children, and I own my own business. I am a builder since 1996. There is nothing I wouldn't do to make sure my kids are put first and myself second. So many people seem to say that but when the sacraficing actually comes they freak out and do the opposite! Yeah, the laws are unfair and politics in the courtroom are even uglier, but at one point you got to hand it over to a larger authority than yourself and keep breathing. Everyone needs to calm the f$%^ down, raise the kids and then decide if you want to become selfish asses because that is the time to do so! RIP - young woman whom I will never know.....

musicfreak - I agree with you ... this is not the place to be debating that issue. Unfortunately a frequent poster claimed that the church set themselves up for this kind of thing to happen by supporting same-gender couples. Suggesting that the church members in some way brought this on themselves is both hateful and hurtful. I would personally be glad if all the posts raising the homosexuality issue -- including mine -- were removed from this thread.

I'm trying to figure out how whether or not homosexuality is a sin started in this article. My heart goes out to this woman's family. No one deserves that kind of an ending. I suppose the only plus is that he stuck around to be arrested, so that's a few less taxpayer dollars to try to solve a crime. My guess is he's going to plead temporary insanity or diminished capacity or something like that.

carlconstantine - there are many intelligent, faithful Christians who have studied the Bible for decades who support couples in committed, same-gender relationships. They believe that the relational context is critical, and that the scriptures usually quoted in oppostion to such relationships describe something totally different. They also look to Jesus' definition of sin -- failure to love God and neighbor with a selfless, self-sacrificing love -- and see nothing in the relationships of same-gender couples they know that works against Christ's call to love. Your claim that people who hold such views demonstrate "flagrant disregard for the Bible" is both untrue and arrogant. Equating same-gender relationships to murder is bizarre and disgusting. And trying to link this tragedy to support for those relationships is despicable. I know faithful people on both sides of that issue who are able to discuss the topic with some humility. You apparently aren't one of them.

I am done with you mentally ill people justifying murder. I will add one final note. You might not come out and say murder is justified but u can UNDERSTAND men being driven to this point? carlconstantine said: It's easy to say what you would do now in the event of a future divorce, but if a King County judge awarded your wife full custody of your kids and ordered you to pay $3,500 a month in child support and your wife would live in the house that you built, you might understand how David Brame felt before shooting is ex-wife in front of his kids. Wow are you serious? You know there is an example of a very similar thing. Cain used this justification when he slew Abel. I heard this BS all my life from my dad "If your mother ever cheated on me I would put her into the ground" The times of women being men's material possessions and "How dare you disobey my will woman" is over I am only sad that I was not there to put four of my 44 magnum slugs into this scum bag before he shot.

Therefore many of them appear to know far more than you do, based on your whimpy comment... cyrixlord - My most recent posting says "The bible and GOD himself called homosexuality an abomination and those who practice such things are worthy of DEATH." Did I ever say "Jesus said"? There are many issues that Jesus didn't actually say, but the bible certainly has a great deal to say... Both are equally true and worthy of acceptance. And for the record, my opinon doesn't make any difference whatsoever in regards to homosexuality. Nor does yours. What matters is what God says... and HE called it an abomination.

I've watched case after case by actually sitting in King County court rooms and it's always the same. (unless you have an astronomical amount of money to pay a lawyer) I feel your pain, but some people don't seem to have a clue and they can't understand why violence is used by people that are not thinking rationally and are under undue stress.

I've read the bible 3 times as I spent many years in bible college. But you are the authority right? The bible and GOD himself called homosexuality an abomination and those who practice such things are worthy of DEATH. What gives you the right to say what is right and wrong in regards to SIN? Only God has that right... And that's who I listen to. Not people that have never spent very much time reading a bible.

My ex wife is bipolar, manic depressive, flies into fits of violent rage with no provocation. She threatened to kill me many times, actually tried once, Threatened to murder our babies in their cribs, was forever threatening suicide. The marriage counselor told us that in over 20 years she was the most difficult person she ever had to work with. An attorney told me that for me to have an even chance of getting custody in this state, she would have to be caught at 3AM in downtown Tacoma selling herself for 25 cents a throw. After court ordered evaluation, I was judged to be above average intelligence, stable, and slower than most people to anger. She was judged below average in intelligence and highly unstable. Naturally, she got custody. My children grew up being told how the whole world hates them, that I was going to kill them, that she was going to kill herself anytime something didn't go her way. Somehow, they survived it, but that is how things work in Washington State.

juliav - A great deal of large Christian denominations today have counselors that are qualified medical professionals and are just a capable (and in some cases even more qualified) to deal with domestic violence issues, than any other professional psychologist or psychiatrist. I've NEVER heard of a Christian counselor telling a woman to stay in a domestic violence situation. The following statement that you posted is simply not true… “Domestic violence was brought to the western hemisphere by the white christians who invaded, destroyed, and took over. Women and children were the "property" of the man and had no rights to be treated with respect”. NO! White women and children have never been considered “property”… Black SLAVES were… Know your history!

"If homosexuality is acceptable then why is murder not acceptable?"...........UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh...cause one is a horrific violent permanent act against an unwilling victim, the other is about someone living an aspect of their life with willing partners (that they actually care deeply for and feel LOVE towards, the same way you love your opposite gender hollier-than-thou spouse, but I bet they leave the lights on and enjoy it a helluva lot more! .....Yes, they 'LOVE', remember that word from the bible?). So all sins are equal? if someone enjoys too much wine or works on the sabbath, or has envy, then they are on par with murderers? WOW! "They are both SIN based on what I've read in the bible. (I've read the entire bible 3 times)".....BWAHAHAHHAAA!! Wow you read the bible 3 whole times? Is that some big accomplishment or something? I would think if I chose to base my life on a book, then reading it many times would be desired. I'll be sleeping in on Sunday.

It is all of the angry selfish men whining about how unfair the state of Washington is to men who need to take their meds not me. I have children of my own and my wife is a stay at home mom to raise the little ones and so we don't have to have day care which exposes them to all kinds of potentially bad people. I have worked three jobs at the same time before and put myself through college to get a very good paying job at Microsoft. I have made sacrifices for my children. If my wife and I were to get divorced and she were to get custody and alimony...I would continue to sacrifce for the children...period end of story. Anything else is pure selfishness

Bipolar? Funny... typical to add insults to the whining. Throughout my life it is the mother and the children I have seen get shafted. Those mothers who have mistreated their children or been unfit mothers have had their children taken away from them and given to the father. Throughout my large extended family this has been the case. As a matter of fact: 1. My brother in law received his children in a custody battle because the reason he and his wife split up was because for her infidelity and drug use. The courts awarded him full custody and deemed her an unfit mother. 2. My wife herself was one of those children who's parents divorced. Her father was a very abusive drunk who her mother had to get a restraining order against. She was a stay at home mom who had to then get work to support her kids because her ex-husband spent some time in jail for beating her. After he got out of jail he fell off the face of the map and my mother in law had to raise her four children on her own.

bazwest don't assume that he hates women he merely stated his opinion. What he stated was, and I say was, the norm in divorce cases. The courts used to favor the mothers more often than not twenty years ago. But since then things have started to shift dramatically in that area. Especially custody of any minor kids.

Church counselors are not qualified to deal with domestic violence issues. They should have "counseled" the woman a long time ago to get away from this abuser. Unfortunately for victims of domestic violence, churches think they're obeying god by telling women to stay with abusive husbands. Their god is not a misogynist. Domestic violence was brought to the western hemisphere by the white christians who invaded, destroyed, and took over. Women and children were the "property" of the man and had no rights to be treated with respect. That church should be held accountable for its role in putting this woman at risk.

Many of us know that, the Lutheran Church is divided in turmoil due to gay and lesbian issues... Part of the Lutheran denomination condones homosexuality as being acceptable, which is absolutely against everything that Jesus taught and stood for. It's no supprise to me that someone was shot in the church. When churches allow such blatant and flagrant disregard for the Bible and what it teaches, many followers lose the very moral fabric of Christianity itself. If homosexuality is acceptable then why is murder not acceptable? They are both SIN based on what I've read in the bible. (I've read the entire bible 3 times) You can't allow "contamination" into your well and not expect to become sick from drinking water. Sin in a church denomination has consequences for the entire denomination, not just the section that condones abominations.

dont be too upset, remember she is up in heaven right now. According to the pictures associated with the literature, it is much like a sprawling sunny field, where you can safely hang out with lions, tigers, and a whole lotta white people, and of course, the only sparkling white blond jewish fella from the middle east, Jesus! Forget immaculate conception and water into wine (although I am pretty jealous of the latter ), Simply being born white and blond to dark skinned desert folks is a big enough miracle to me! Thank goodness they didnt have the media we have now back then, He would have been youtubed and Mary would be on Maury and Jerry and Steve taking paternity and lie detector tests to prove to Joseph that Jesus was truly "God's Son" (no, just because you screamed "oh god" during the conception doesnt make it god's child). Death sucks, but getting to nap with Lions is pretty cool.

I am at a loss as to how killing the Children’s mother and then the father having to go to prison will in any way benefit the children. Too many selfish, self centered men running around in this world. Oooohhhh I cannot pay my child support because it isn't fair or they are taking too much from me. What a great attitude...those kids no longer seem to be his when things go south with the spouse.
