BOTHELL, Wash. – Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a semi-truck driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Just after midnight Tuesday in Bothell, a semi-truck driver was traveling westbound on a ramp on State Route 522, entering southbound I-405, when the driver hit light poles and the guard rail, according to state troopers.
Debris rained down on lanes of traffic below and caused three additional accidents. A trooper said six different vehicles were involved, but there were only minor injuries were reported.
The driver, a 30-year-old from Idaho, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and is currently in the King County Jail.
While investigators were dealing with all this, another call came in: A woman stuck in the traffic backup was going into labor. Dispatchers sent assistance to her; her condition is unknown.
Washington Department of Transportation crews are trying to remove the semi truck, which ended up on the guard rail, and damaged light poles.
The accident blocked several lanes at the I-405/SR 522 interchange. By 6 a.m. some of those lanes were reopened, but traffic was still backing up in the area.
