Downed power lines at Stewart Street and Yale Avenue backed up traffic and caused power outages affecting parts of Capitol Hill, First Hill, and South Lake Union.

Seattle City Light said repairs should be finished by 6:40 p.m. Wednesday. Stewart Street won't open until the work is done, which could affect the evening commute.

The Seattle police reported that just before 9:00 a.m., a semi truck ran into some power lines and pulled down a power pole in the 100 block of Yale Avenue.

The Seattle Police Department is blocking all streets in the area while the lines and pole are repaired. Off ramps from I-5 and the express lanes are also shut down.

According to reports, the truck continued driving after the incident. The driver may not have realized what had happened.

The truck was stopped at Dexter and Mercer.

Initially, the power outage affected 3,600 homes and businesses.
