SEATTLE -- A new report on the worst traffic spots on our nation's roadways puts Seattle on the list for bad congestion.

Seattle ranked in the top 40 for worst congestion highway systems. One trouble spot that made the list: southbound I-5 from Shoreline to downtown Seattle. For worst morning commutes in the nation, I-5 northbound from Boeing Field into downtown Seattle came in 35th.

According to the new study by the Texas Transportation Institute, drivers wasted 271,000 gallons of fuel on that stretch of I-5 northbound.

The study found other trouble spots on highways our area: I-90 westbound from Mercer Way to Bellevue Way, I-90 from Mercer Way to Bellevue Way, westbound 520 and also several stretches of I-405.

What's the worst spot of your morning commute? Share your story on Facebook.

@digger2222 Again, you need to research Eyman and his political views. He has no desire to get freeways moving in any way.

Um tootoo the 'POLITICIANS' are to blame for the mess and in particular the Democrat party, not Eyman. Our taxes continually go up and very few including yourself obviously never want to challenge the accountability for funds being spent by the politicians. If Olympia was made up of politicians that had the mindset of Eyman we would actually 'be moving' on the freeways and byways but instead we embrace nonsense like 'light rail' the most expensive, yet inefficient mode of transportation. We subsidize transit all on the backs of the taxpayers who for the most part do not ride. Had transit not been subsidized it would likely not survive but because of social engineering and the likes of 'tootoo' we continually get this foolishness rammed down our throats. We're always told we need more revenue and yet the politicians always look to hamstring the public and in particular 'businesses' with higher taxes, greater rules and regulations which only means we get 'less' revenue.

I love how everyone is blaming the politicians for this mess. Just remember that Washington voters THREE TIMES voted for Tim Eyman measures, which gutted most transportation funding for the state. THREE TIMES. The gas tax was a stop gap measure, but it didn't get our funding anywhere near I-695. So all of you blaming the government, think back to your voting history. And don't give me any of that "the government needs to learn to do more with less" bull. You can't do anything with nothing.

Then you look at our gas tax which is way up there. You look at how they are going to add more taxes with tolling. (yes that is a tax, called a toll, but is really a tax) and then you wonder why we have such crowded roads. I can tell you why. These people waste money like it's going out of style. And they don't plan and if they do plan the plan never happens. It's a joke, only nobody is laughing

they did it so we can sit in the car on the freeway to burn GAS. Oil companies love us. Tax for the street. tax for enviroment and all other tax.

Nice accolades for the two worst politicians in Washington State history; McGinn and Gregoire. I see this honor as recognition of the total and complete failure of these two to manage the Puget Sound, and Seattle, traffic and infrastructure systems. Nice job, you two. Buffoons, the both of you! Move aside for someone competent!

Sounds like MOST of the freeways in the area!!! I moved away 8 years ago, after 48 years, Seattle will always be home. But the traffic was bad THEN! When I visit it isn't too bad, because I stay away from rush hour (if possible) Moved to Phoenix, great freeway system, but had nothing but desert to contend with in building new freeways. I know the geography greatly hampers new freeways in Seattle, but Tim Eiman(sp?) hasn't helped either! Stay great Seattle.

Those stupid smart highway signs have no benefit.. though, they can set different speeds on different lanes which, what if all WA roads with 2 lanes in same direction had a 5mph on the left most free-for-all lane (and HOV lane)?
