Seattle fans of the PBS show "Downton Abbey" are pushing it to ever higher ratings.

The show is so popular in the Seattle area, KCTS is consistently the No. 1 or No. 2 PBS station in the country for "Abbey" ratings. Last Sunday's two-hour episode was second only to the Grammy Awards in the Seattle market.

The brother of Abbey actress Elizabeth McGovern lives in Seattle, and he understands the show's appeal.

"I think it really appeals to a lot of people on a lot of different levels. It's a period piece of course, and people love to see the costumes and they love to hear the accents and so on, but it's modern enough that people can really relate to what's going on,” said Monty McGovern.

Ratings on KCTS for Downton Abbey this year are more than 50 percent higher than last season.

I love Downton Abby...I love all the actors in it..I love everything about it and I have it on record series..Such a bunch of talented actors..Some of the scenes kind of corny but love them..i.e. Matthew can't walk, and then stands up from his wheel chair when his fiancee falls..Rich little tart at heart, Mary, falling into the arms of the Turk guest AND HE DIED DURING THE RUMBLE!!! Just like the "True Story" magazine published in and around the 1940's 39's and on television..I love PBS and let's keep the money rolling into them..

Our son got us started on this with a Downton Abbey marathon when he came home from college. Bloody good time, I have to say...

PBS has ratings? Great, now they can be self sufficient and not take any tax payers money.

Heard about the show from my sister who was watching season 2. I checked season 1 out on Netflix and was hooked. Too late to catch up with season 2 on pbs though. Now I'm in limbo. ; (

I didn't think it would be all that special of a show, but then I started episode one and spent my whole day watching more on Hulu.

Thank God Batesy didn't get hanged. That was tortuous. Scones and tea, anyone? Geebus, I've got me panties in a twist over this Mary and Matthew moldy cheese party. I dare say the two should not attempt to mate as first cousins often produce children with extra hands protruding out of their foreheads.

I made the mistake of watching episode one on Netflix and ended up watching the rest of season one by the end of the week. Don't start if you haven't got about 7 hours to spare. But it is really good.
