FEDERAL WAY -- An SUV ran off the road Friday evening near Federal Way, heading down an embankment and into a creek.

In an elaborate rescue, firefighters cut the roof off the SUV to reach the man inside, hauling him up to paramedics. Water in the SUV had already risen to the bottom of the seat.

Firefighters said the man was driving on Peasley Canyon Road South near Highway 18 before 5:00 p.m., when he suddenly swerved off the road.

The SUV went through a fence, down a ravine into a creek, where water rushed through the vehicle.

The man's condition is not known, but he was transported to the hospital for medical attention.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

@vffrwm So you know this person who had this accident is also a fireman and rescue aid himself. So next time you have an accident maybe they could just leave you there! Have some respect!

@vffrwm..I have traveled that road late at night..Stone cold sober and it is a beeech..It is dark, dark, dark and the signs are hard to read..so don't go convicting a person who had an accident on this road before you know the details..

@vffrwm - would you want rescue aid to think that about you if you had an accident and swerved off the road? Anyone can have an accident.

Should have left him there. This time he didn't kill anyone, next time he probably will.

Amen to both of you! "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"!!! The powers that be have never heard this before I'm sure! Wonder how many studies, votes and dollars it will take to "remove" this new totally unnecessary object!

I AGREE!!!!! I haven't been down that road for quite some time until just before Christmas. I couldn't believe a round-about was there!!! The only problem I ever saw was the turn lane. Going Eastbound people in the turn lane would make an unsafe turn in front of cars coming down the hill or people going Westbound would do the same. The problem was the Turn lane. I think it would have been safer to put in a blinking yellow light on the Eastbound lane before the corner to warn drivers of cars turning. The round-about is very tight!!!! I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a serious traffic problem, possibly deadly. BAD CHOICE!!!

because some idiot official decided to put in a roundabout circle dropping speed from 40 to 15,i can see the lawsuits already, nothing was wrong with the turn lane that was there,i can see all the 18 wheelers trying to maneuver this already, let alone all the waste management trucks that use this road, what dipsticks.
