The public got the chance to speak directly to the Seattle City and King County councils Thursday night about the proposed sports arena in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood.

The meeting began at 5:30 p.m. at Seattle City Hall, 600 4th Avenue. It was expected to last for hours, as each participant who wanted to speak was allotted 1 minute of time.

Council members are currently reviewing a memorandum of understanding between San Francisco investor Chris Hansen, King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn to construct the facility that would host NBA and NHL teams.

Council members have expressed concern about how much public financing would go into the $490 million arena.

People in favor of the new arena have launched a Facebook page promoting the hearing.

If you cannot attend in person, you can watch on King County TV on Comcast and Broadstripe Cable channel 22 or online at www.kingcounty.gov/KCTV. You can also follow reporter Elisa Hahn's coverage on Twitter at twitter.com/ElisaHahnK5.
