PUYALLUP, Wash. - A Puyallup couple didn't quite make it to the delivery room in time when their daughter was ready to be born.

Jessica and Ngoma Howard were speeding to the hospital when Maya decided she was in no mood to wait. So, the couple pulled up outside of Puyallup City Hall.

Jessica explained what happened next.

"When I felt down there and I felt her head, that's when I said 'OK. this is really happening. I need to push her out,'" she said.
Help arrived in the form of Lt. Scott Engle, who recently had some delivery training himself with the birth of his own child.

When it looked like Maya wasn't breathing, Engle cleared her tiny airway with his finger to make her cough. Mom, dad, and helper were all relieved when Maya announced her debut in the world - with a healthy cry.

Hmmm - a little politician in the making? Or perhaps a community activist!

Congratulations, nice work all around to everyone. A great story the family can tell forever...too bad there are not more good stories in the news.
