A Bellevue man was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault after he fled from a pursuing trooper and crashed into a Mercer Island business.
The Washington State Patrol said at about 11:20 p.m., Friday, the 47-year-old man was driving a Porsche Panamera eastbound in the I-90 express lanes. The vehicle was tracked on radar speeding in excess of 140 mph.
The car exited to Island Crest Way and hit a street sign on the right side, then hit a building and burst into flames.
The Mercer Island Fire Department said the driver and passenger were out of the vehicle when the fire department arrived on the scene.
Mercer Island Firefighters, with assistance from Bellevue Fire Department were able to extinguish the fire in several minutes. The building houses several medical offices.
The driver of the car and the passenger, a 36-year-old Issaquah woman, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The State Patrol said speed and drugs or alcohol caused the crash.
