Poll:
Should libraries filter out adult content on computers?
SEATTLE – A Seattle mother is speaking out after spotting a man viewing porn on a Seattle Public Library computer in plain view for everyone – including her 10-year-old daughter.
Julie Howe tells The Seattle Times the computer was located next to the popular DVD section at the Lake City branch.
When she approached librarians about it, Howe says she was told that it's library policy to not censor people’s access to information. The only exception is on computers in the children’s section, which are filtered for content.
A library spokesperson says the library is considering moving the DVD section somewhere else in order to cut down on inadvertent viewing of computer screens.
