SEATTLE -- Search divers found the body of a missing woman under a pier near the Ballard Bridge Friday morning, the woman's family told KING 5 News.

Lia Hawkins, 33, was last seen Thursday morning aboard the boat The Sahara, currently docked at the Seaview Boatyard. Hawkins worked on the boat as the office manager, along with her brother.

Her brother said he last saw her on the ship at 11 a.m.; she was never seen or heard from since. Police said Hawkins' SUV was still parked at the dock and her purse and cell phone were still aboard the ship.

After an unsuccessful search Thursday night, authorities resumed their search Friday morning. Harbor Patrol dive teams found a woman's body matching the description of Hawkins underneath the pier where The Sahara is docked shortly before noon.

Family and friends of Hawkins, who came to the boat yard early Friday to assist in the search, were devastated when they heard the news.

"It doesn't make sense who goes. Life is so precious, that's why you have to enjoy each day, each moment because you never know when your card's going to be pulled," said Hawkins' best friend.

The medical examiner will confirm the identity of the body and is investigating the cause of death.  Police do not know if it was accidental or if there was foul play, so they are currently treating the case as a death investigation.

I can't believe the comments here. Someone lost their life and people are making jokes about it? Grow up. What if it was your loved one? I bet you wouldn't be talking like this. Have some respect for her and her family and friends.

Lia was a great shining person who brought a smile with her where ever she went! Someone needs to take all the bad out of context comments down. Its hard enough to deal with this with out reading dumb out of context comments from uneducated A-holes who have no idea of whats going on. I can't believe any news organization would let this go on. Plus, there needs to be a follow up or update to help stop all the speculations. Get real North West Cable News.

I am SOOOO incredibly disgusted at all of the STUPID MORONIC comments!!!!! A woman is DEAD!! I am disgusted that KING 5 posts them- I work for a weekly newspaper- we also have a website where people can comment on stories- it has to be approved by and editor before going live- this is wrong! I have lost respect for KING 5 and am appalled at very rude insensitive ( and STUPID!!! ) human beings- if you all feel comfortable calling yourselves that!

I wish I could say I was appalled at some of these comments, but I am not. People just seem to have no sense of decency. Your mothers would all be proud.

@aleigha: I don't know about the prime of her life. I've seen the photo. It looked like she passed the expiration date.

Tragic story for all involved. Young woman in the prime of her life, taken away in a moments notice. Hurtful to find her but at least family isn't left wondering and agonizing for years. Blessing and agonizing all in the same moments. My condolences to all. It is horribly hard to deal with such tragedy.

@kbbcoop: So what you're saying is she lost her will to live after hearing their BS. It's understandable. The same thing almost happened to me too. Dino Rossi and a bottle of Carlo Rossi told me to stay strong.

its has been confirmed she had gone to hear Obama and Murray speak. After listening to the waves of BS, she decided to walk off a pier.

jdillahunt.. why would family be surfing a news blog after such a horrible and personal event?.. they wouldn't. They don't need your saving.

Hey King5, why don;t you get some class and monitor these comments: "Sharks these days make it so hard to confirm bodies." "did they try calling her cell? maybe she is in the head?" You think Lia's family and friends want to read this kind of tripe as they're beginning to understand what has happened? News isn't entertainment.

Perhaps she simply fell overboard and drowned. Sad.

This was not a suicide; this is an anguishing story of a beautiful woman's mysterious death. She left happy messages to friends just that morning, loved her job and had a future she was excited about. God Bless you Lia and keep you. We here in San Diego love you and will miss you forever.

Now, it's time for DOT to get involved and fence up that area.
