SEATTLE - Police shot and killed a man who reportedly pointed a gun at officers last night on Beacon Hill.

Before the fatal shooting police say the male suspect, in his 30s, led Washington State Patrol troopers in chase from the Pierce/King County line that started around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The man was driving a white pickup truck and had a female passenger.

The truck crashed near Swift Avenue and South Eddy Street. The female stayed in the vehicle, but the man ran a couple blocks and hid behind a storage shed, according to police.

A Seattle Police K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a shed in a resident's yard. Police say the man came out of his hiding spot and pointed a gun at officers. A Seattle police officer responded by firing multiple times, striking the man who later died at Harborview Medical Center.

The female passenger in the pickup truck was taken to Harborview to be treated for injuries from the crash.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
