SEATTLE -- A man who assaulted a police officer after crashing his car into a house in the Greenwood neighborhood is still on the loose.

Greg Roberts and his roommates have a lot of clean-up to do today. Overnight a driver running from police crashed his SUV through their front window, running into the TV and stereo before hitting the couch where Roberts was sitting just moments before.

"The window blew into the room and landed on the couch," said Roberts. "I probably wouldn't have been killed but definitely wouldn't have been in very good shape the bumper was sitting on the couch."

It all started on Aurora and 90th when a police officer tried to pull over a driver on a traffic stop.  Instead the driver sped off, ultimately crashing through Roberts' yard over a tree and into the house at 90th and Meridian.

"I got sprayed by glass. Just picking glass out of my hair is really something," said Roberts.

The driver crawled out of his mangled SUV and the officer caught up to him. She tried to arrest the driver but he attacked her. The officer was hurt and her attacker ran away.

The officer was taken to Harborview Medical Center for minor injuries and was back on the job in a few hours.

Meantime police across the city were out looking for the suspect.  Around 4 a.m., they thought they had him in the Madrona neighborhood, even bringing in tracking dogs without success. However, police believe they know who they are looking for and are confident they'll catch him.

Roberts is looking forward to that.

"If the guy who did this is watching, thanks a lot, man - really appreciate it," said Roberts.

Roberts says the house is structurally sound, but they will have to move out until the wall can be fixed.

Bruce Lee: I had always thought cops should be big guys that could handle drunks & perps. Too often they do just what you described. In Atlanta I saw a female cop make a routine traffic stop. That gal must have weighed 300 pounds. She waddled up to the car. Pathetic....At least the cop in this story showed some courage.

shut up, jackie chan. the female officer was very brave. while ago, some bigger younger guy tried to take a swing at me in the middle of a verbal battle. i beat the sh*t out of him, got on top of him, and waited until the officers arrive. Funny thing was I saw a cop car coming to a full stop a hundred feet from me, but no one came out. So I had to keep the moron under me much longer. What happen was...the two heavy weight male officers in the cruiser were waiting for a BACK UP!!!!!!!

This is not the Greenwood neighborhood. We are Licton Springs near Northgate and Green Lake. I would like to thank the police for keeping the neighborhood safe. We slept through most of the racket because we were comfortable with the police handling the situation. There is no excuse for running from the police and driving like a maniac. Thank you SPD.

Car chases virtually ALWAYS end with severe property damage. One in 5 ends with injuries to someone, often a bystander. One in 5 ends in death, often the death of a bystander. The Blue Gun Thugs should NOT be chasing cars. Their adrenaline rush is not worth the cost to the people. A decision to chase is a choice to cause massive property damage and to risk the life and health of the people. Instead of their adrenaline rush they should use cautious observations and tracking methods to wait for the "suspect" to arrive at a destination where a peaceful confrontation can be made. In this chase the blue gun thugs destroyed someone's house. Shame, shame, shame on the blue gun thug speeders who risk the lives and property of the people.

" Police stopped pursuing a driver, then the driver crashed into a home at Meridian Avenue and 90th." Sounds a bit fishy. Blame-shifting?
