SEATTLE - Two pilots from the Pacific Northwest who overshot a Minnesota airport because they weren't paying attention will not fight to for their revoked licenses.

However, Captain Timothy Cheney of Gig Harbor, Wash. and First Officer Richard Cole of Salem, Ore. can apply for new licenses Aug. 29. That's about 10 months after they flew an Airbus A320 with 144 passengers about 150 miles past Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. They did not respond to radio calls for over an hour.

Cheney and Cole have said they were distracted by looking at a new crew scheduling system on their laptops. Using laptops is a violation of Northwest Airlines' policies.

In order to fly commercial airplanes again, Cheney and Cole would reportedly have to start their training all over.

Why fight a 9 month vacation when it would just be easier and cheeper to apply for a new one at the end of the year? Not rocket science why they aint fighting it. AND they were not sleeping people.. there was something jiggy happening!!!

I totally agree. They are not willing to fight to save their careers for good reason... MISCONDUCT. If the Washington State Bar Association revoked my law license, they would be in for a hell of a battle! Unless I did something that... Never mind. I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my lively-hood. Based on various news reports, sounds like those two pilots were very arrogant.

ohmygoodness.............. Internet access is now very common. Most all long haul carriers are now offering access. My son, who flies left seat with a major carrier, has mentioned several times the most likely scenario would be they drifted off. Let it be known that falling asleep is common, maybe not both left and right seat at the same time. A major factor causing these sleep situations is the fact the flight controls are so sophisticated and very capable of flying unattended for long periods of time the pilots then get bored just sitting there. These two pilots are simply a small cog in a large wheel of concern. Let me ask you, when was the time you almost nodded of while driving your car????????????

@ohmygoodness - I flew on a Delta airplane last week that had wireless internet as long as you paid the money for it. Also, they will not have to start their training over. They have all the required hours so all they have to do is do 3 hours of training before each flight test should they want to do it all over again. Of course an airline will not take them back but maybe someone in the private sector will.

DEFINITELY a lie..how could they have pulled up a "scheduling system"...which would've required Internet access...which is PROHIBITED on planes? People flying are only allowed to access programs like Excel, MicroSoft Word, etc...anything else would interfere with their instrumentation. Yep--asleep. Definitely asleep....and lying..big time!

That is what those two pilots should of gotten. What they did was BAD PR for the airlines and the airlines will lose money, as if they need more money.

They won't fight because they don't want the truth to be known. There's got to be more to this story than they want revealed.............. Sorry, I don't buy their story.

I would fly with these guys again. But only now, after they got their junk slapped for carelessness. They are probably both good pilots that made a mistake. So come on guys (pilots), admit the mistake, take your punishment, learn from it, and fly planes like you are capable of.

I still can't understand why they did not admit to being asleep. Many experts have said that the only logical answer, is that they both fell asleep. Also, who would ever want to fly on an airplane with either of these guys at the helm? If it were up to me, they would be offered a job loading luggage, or being a flight attendant.
