SEATTLE - She's running now, and running hard. Patty Murray kicked off her Senate campaign with a huge fundraising luncheon in downtown Seattle today.

She used the event to hand out "Golden Tennis Shoe" awards and to take shots at one possible general election opponent, clearly the opponent Democrats fear most, Dino Rossi.

Rossi waited until a few weeks ago to get into the race after being recruited by Senate Republican leaders.

Murray brought it up today.

"And unlike some others in this race, I have never hemmed or hawed or hedged my bets," she said during a full-fledged stump speech. "I have never wondered whether or not I wanted to fight for you every day or whether it was worth it to me personally, to be your voice fighting for this region. No one had to convince me. Or make promises, to drag me in."

Some Murray supporters told me today this election season worries them and there is clearly some concern that Murray could be vulnerable. But they are also optimistic that she can win a tough campaign battle.

"I think it's the kind of election cycle where you take nothing for granted," said longtime Murray backer Bill Arthur. "But I have a hard time believing that Patty Murray isn’t going to be our Senator come November."

I asked Murray about that vulnerability, about what she thought of political analysts and critics and observers and talking heads describing her Senate seat as vulnerable. I asked three times, and three times she moved smoothly and immediately into her campaign speech, never answering the question directly.

It is clear this is one three-term Senator who has learned there is nothing to be gained by talking politics with political reporters during a campaign. Don't expect her to handicap the race; expect plenty of predictable responses about fighting for Washingtonians and doing what's right for the country.

Give this woman another term! She has done nothing but good for our state and will continue to do nothing but good. Dino will do nothing but turn us into a backwards state like Georgia. You Eastern neocons don't like it? You're probably no more than 40 miles from Idaho if you want a backwards, conservative, racist state.

anything is better than the socialist sock puppet who admitted she voted the way the dictator wanted her to instead of representing her constituency. I would prefer someone besides rossi - although as a first term candidate, he will be better than the goon in office now. She, as well as ALL incumbents, need to go - then we can work on getting independent candidates elected.

The only way Rossi should even be considered is if he publicly supports the intent of the Arizona laws on Illegal immigration. P.S. treeclimber is right.

This woman is so incompetent at the job of US Senator. It was pathetic watching the way she attempted to take shots at Rossi in that whiney little sing song voice, how embarrassing for all of the adults that live in Washington state. Her pandering to labor unions is disgusting, as if we are so inept and stupid as to not be able to run our lives without Patty "in there fighting for us!" Her 2010 Senate campaign logo should be a giant rubber stamp that reads "YES! Anything O'bama wants I will do!" Please Lord, let us elect a man with a brain to replace this woman.

how bout didier? the supposed righteous tea party candidate that is against hire taxes and hand outs but took over 240k in government farm subsidies but claims thats different. just like people who complain about obama but don't have any real conservative candidate to replace him except idiots like gingrich, beck, limbaugh or palin. great alternatives. that's why unfortunately for the tea party, you have no better choice or ideas. just complain about whos in office for the sake of complaining. gettin old people!

Patty Murray sounds like a broken immature record . . . it goes around and around saying the same thing over and over and over. We are tired of her rhetoric and need new blood in WA state politics. She needs to grab her tennies and head for her home. Her days of listening to those of us that supported her and elected her are over. She thinks she is the Queen of the Senate . . . she has lost her energy, her spark, her integrity. She is not representing us but her own agenda. Let her go. Let her get a job in the state of WA and bring in someone more committed, more understood, more able to work with both sides. Murray just doesn't have it anymore.

I am still trying to figure out which Washington she is fighting for. She sure doesn't care about the Washingtonians that live in the state. Can't wait to see her fired.

This is going to be a tough, tough fight for both of them. The two previous comments sound like you are talking about our old King County Sheriff and Bush.

I am praying hard, as hard as she may be running, for her to lose the race. She is an Obamunist, Liberal waste of a Senatorial seat...

What a disaster she has been. Total allegiance to the Pretender in the white house. Obedient to whatever Hairy Reed says to do. Supporting the conversion of the US to a fascist dictatorship. Ms. Totalitarian Murphy must go.
