MARYSVILLE, Wash. – One teen was killed and two others were hurt in a crash not far from the Marysville School's Getchell Campus.

A teenager headed west on 108th Street Northeast lost control of his car just after 2 p.m., crashing into a tree.

He died at the scene.

Two passengers were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center; one is in critical condition.

Deputies say the driver was speeding, but the the incident remains an active investigation.

"Two of the students are from Bio Med Academy and a third student attends School for the Entrepreneur.  Tragically one of the students from Bio Med Academy was killed in the accident, " the district said in a news release issued late Monday night.

"What we know at this time is that the other two students were air-lifted to Harborview Medical Center.  One student is in critical condition and the other is in serious condition," the release added.

A crisis team of counselors will be on hand tomorrow at the Marysville Getchell Campus to meet with students and staff, and counselors at the Marysville Pilchuck Campus will be available to assist students there. Counselor will remain through the week as long as they are needed, the district said.

The release concludes,"All of us in the Marysville School District extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the family of the student killed in the accident. Our thoughts are also with the families of the two students injured in the crash as they go through grieving the loss of a son’s friend and the healing process for their own children."

As of late Monday night, authorities still had not officially released the names of the young men involved.

Three families lives where forever changed yesturday. Years ago a girl crossed the center lane on a corner her life was lost and the others in the car badly hurt. The girls family lost everything they had it wasnt speed or alchol it was inexperience and I have always thought how horrible to loose your child your home and watch the hurt and pain of the other families. The families of the boys need the support of community and friends. Kids think they are invinsable that is life and they arent we will never get that across to all of them but may the other students in the area take note and learn from this then other lives will be saved.

I know each these boys and their families; and even if I didn't I would say the same thing to everyone who is considering leaving a comment or have already. You have no right making such an ill statement towards a tragedy that has impacted so many. If you have nothing kind to say, keep your words to yourself. If it were your child or friend, you would not allow people to make these awful comments. Don't be a hypocrite. Your respect and your words of kindness are what the families and friends of these three young boys need right now. If it were you who died or was involved in a critically injuring crash, you would be hurt to see people writing these things about you. Think twice before you type.

I think that if anyone has anything negative to say about this accident they should keep it to themselves. There are family and friends that are reading this and they really dont need to read about anyone saying anything bad about there children. Have some respect for the familys.

Hop fully parents will learn from this as well. I know people like to think that their child won't lie, or is "Responsible" but stop kidding yourselves before this happens to someone you love. I lost my daughter last year, she was 18, so I understand the loss. This is the 21st century, we don't spank our kids anymore and teens should not be alone in the car. Is your child's life worth gambling on?

It is always sad to hear about these accidents. When I was a very young teenager, some of my school mates took out of their parents cars just to go on a joy-ride. Innocent fun, and tragically they, being young and invincible, were involved in a terrible car accident. A boy, a 14 year old class mate of mine died at the scene. His death had a huge impact on me and my fellow class mates. Please have some compassion for the families of these boys, their fellow class mates, and the community. They are all hurting. If anyone who was involved in this accident happens to read this post, please know that the vast majority of humanity out there is caring and compassionate. You are all in my thoughts, because I've experienced this myself, and losing a friend or family member to a car accident is terrible. @ MrMagoo, shame on you.

Wow people kinda cold. These boys are human beings. Let the family's heel without all your negativity. I was on this road when this happened. So tragic to see. Im sure you would feel differently if these were kids you knew. My daughter has known these boys for years. Lets all have some feelings please.

Survival of the fittest? thinning of the gene pool? This is human life we are talking about, it is valuable and many people are mourning the loss of this person. The others are in CRITICAL condition, does that mean nothing? all you can think of is responsible driving? Wether the descision was wise or not do you have no right to be rude. Also not all teen drivers are irresponsibe, i happen to know quite a few who are very responible drivers.

I agree with you thatgirl, what a senseless tragedy. I know I watched a powerful film when I was in high school called Death on the Hiway. This was so bad it scared me to death. I hope kids will learn that they are NOT invincible and LEARN TO SLOW DOWN. Go to a race track if you feel the need for speed. My thoughts and prayers go to the families. How terribly sad.

Snohomish County does the "Driving it Home" program in that area, at that school I believe. It's put on by the police, parents who have lost a child due to an accident, Insurance companies and people effected by a traffic accident. It's a powerful, shocking program that should stop this senseless loss of life, but saddly, teens still believe it can't happen to them...

I wish there was a way to get kids to be more responsible drivers. They need to be shown what happens when you drive reckless. I mean show them some real sick stuff and make them think. I think they should be shown what the first responders witness. Also what's up with these young kids getting brand new cars, loud stereos. What happened to getting an old beater to start off with? My prayers go out to the family. It's a awful lesson to have to learn. PLEASE slow down kids.
