Poll:
What's the best way to help the economy?

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has a warning for Republicans who denounce the federal deficit but reject proposals to cut it.

Obama tells CBS, "I'm going to call them on their bluff."

The president promises to have "a bunch of ideas" for deficit reduction, but he didn't specify them in the broadcast interview.

Many analysts say both spending cuts and tax increases are needed to tame the soaring deficit.

Republicans in Congress oppose almost any form of tax increases, as do some Democrats. Lawmakers in both parties call for spending cuts, but they often hedge when cuts are proposed to specific programs.

Ah, I get it. We cut the deficit by increasing deficit spending. Makes perfect sense to me now. I just needed to drink the O koolaid. Thank you for showing me the error in my ways.

How about putting all the pork belly projects out there and let the people decide which is important enough to be funded which ones should be cut all together. Then there is the million or billions being sent to other countries to keep their wars going, why should we pay for other countries problems when we can't take of our own. Instead of raising taxes how about cutting all those deductions from earn income credit where some people refunds are more than they made for the entire year. And there are many more that should be cut but wont because of the special interest groups.

You, Obama and the Dimocrats do all the spending why shouldn't you do the spending cuts. The only reason to ask the Republicans into your follies is an attempt to shift the blame. Good luck.

rnl52and collegeguy Ma0bama voted for TARP and the purported "stimulus" so he inherited his own mess. It was a Demb congress that voted and passed the bills. The housing mess and there is more to come was crated in the Clinton administration and Bill even tried to persuade a Demb congress of the problems it would create in future years. You can look to two Demb members for this. Barney Frankand Chris Dodd. Both support no document loans, and relaxed lending for minorities. They also passed in a bill in the 90's that forced banks to make more local loans, this is why very few banks do business in poor neighborhoods. You may also note that in the purported "financial reform" Fannie and Freddie were left out,so the political $$ can still be played. You may also want to look at the date of the stock market sell off, right after the election of Ma0bama. Investors knew what was coming and got out. They still have not returned{look at volume numbers in trades} and will not as long as Dembs

@crankster, yeah, its always fun when an irresponsible person gets a credit card with a high limit and goes about giving away money (tax cuts for the rich), Medicare part D (not paid for) two wars (not paid for) after all how can you have TWO wars and tax cuts and NOT have a deficit? Your home price is a direct result of the previous administrations economic policy.....the rich get richer and you pay the bill. Stop watching faux.

Paul O'Neil, bushes first treasury head told Mr. bush in 2002 that more tax cuts (for the wealthy) would damage the economy. It was during that meeting that cheney said "Reagan proved that deficts don't matter". O'Neil was fired 1 month later and bush cut taxes again the following year. Obama should be shoving cheneys words down the collective republican throat everytime these hypocrites start bleeting about the defict. They are the ones who created it.

rainydave, more like you need to realize that it is the failed policies of Bush and his administration that Obama is trying to correct, considering the current deficit was mostly inherited from Bush's failed policies and ramped up war spending, you tea-baggers need to stop talking out your behinds. How desperate are the republicans when everything Obama tries to do gets filibustered, even when it is a program or idea that the republicans supported when it was their party in charge??? Tell me that is not f-ed up. I am so sick and tired of the lies and garbage that the republicans and tea-baggers are pulling because they hate Obama and blame everything on him when he just inherited the mess from the worst president ever in our history who tried to bankrupt us. So rainydave, when your party stops playing games and stops holding the american public hostage, maybe you can talk like you know something then.
