ROME - A convict has offered new testimony in the murder case of American student Amanda Knox, according to the lawyer for Knox's former boyfriend.

Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of killing Meredith Kercher, a 21-year Briton who was Knox's roommate. All were studying in Perugia, a small university town in central Italy.

Rudy Hermann Guede of the Ivory Coast was convicted in separate proceedings. All three have denied wrongdoing.

Mario Alessi, a convicted murderer who was held in the same ward of the Viterbo prison as Guede, volunteered new information and held talks in prison with Sollecito's defense team on Feb. 20, Sollecito's lawyer Luca Maori told The Associated Press.

Maori said the testimony, which was filmed, had been passed on to prosecutors in Perugia.

The newspaper Corriere della Sera and other Italian media reported that Alessi had said Guede told him that Knox and Sollecito were not at the crime scene the night of the murder and had nothing to do with it. They did not cite a source for their information and Maori declined to provide details.

Guede's lawyers told the AP their client never talked to Alessi about the case. A lawyer for the Kercher family, Enzo Maresca, dismissed the testimony as "groundless."

Knox and Sollecito are appealing their convictions.

Amanda even SAID she was there covering her ears to not her the screams. Amanda bought bleach the next morning to try to clean up evidence. She lied over and over again. She and her boyfriend were sitting outside the house the next morning trying to think of what to do when the police arrived. Amanda is Guilty and when her appeal is finished wasting its way through the court system she will serve the rest of her sentence.

I wonder if Alessi the child killer's family and his attorney are driving new cars yet since he held up his end of the bargain?

This must be what the Knox/Mellas PR crew meant when they said it's gotta get fixed?

If you were held for 48 hours in an interrogation room, being yelled at by Italian police how would you fare? Amanda Knox is guilty of being naive, thats it. The Italian prosecutor has a history of making a case out of no facts. I can't believe the comments on this board.

I followed this Knox case from the beginning and this chick is guilty. These privileged American students go over to Europe and think that the laws and moral behavior doesn't apply to them. She should do her time and be done with it.

Why do we still care? The only reason: She's a hottie! If she weighed 400 pounds and was missing a couple of teeth we wouldn't even know here name.

Yawn ... is this turning into the criminal network? Are we going to spend as much time focusing and writing about every convict across the globe ? King5 is turning into the National Enquirer of the TV news. This is becoming a joke that you keep digging this story up. Move on please.

I love how almost everyone is so quick to jump on this as being a hoax so this guy can get out on good behavior or that someone has paid him to say this. Considering the amount of evidence that conflicted, was fabricated, or was highly circumstancial in this case, who is to say that this is fabricated? Considering we may never know, people just need to shut up and let it play out.

clothyard: I think you hit the nail on the head. This all seems a little too fabricated. Amanda's parents better be careful what they get themselves into or involved with or the whole family's going to be behind bars.

If the operatives for Knox and Solecito were to buy false testimony from a convicted child killer, and or bribe the child killer's attorneys or family to persuade him to say these things, what would it look like. Expect to see more such shenanigans. This kind of lying happens all the time in the US in exchange for earlier parole or with an informant who is being coerced.

Come on people! Nothing to see here. A cellmate of Guede has all of a sudden decided to tell a newpaper that Guede says they weren't there? Now isn't that valuable evidence (not). Wonder if the Donald had someone from his 'friends' in the gaming industry communicate with this slug through their connections in Sicily to make him come up with this nice little gem. Will be big time stuff for Larry King, Oprah, TMZ, Dr. Phil etc.

Amanda Know is clearly a victim of the court system. This happens all the time overseas, but most people are unaware that this also happens in King County. People that are totally innocent, and are known by prosecutors to be innocent are put through a revolving door of court appearances and court dates are constantly continued... It's good that this girl is getting media attention, but don't be so quick to judge the Italian court system since Washington Justice is just as bad.
