ABERDEEN, Wash. - An Aberdeen family wants to properly thank a mysterious stranger who helped save a little girl from a burning mini-van. The man walked away from the scene after making sure the girl, her brother and mother were all OK.

Michelle Wilson was in the drive-through of the Aberdeen Jack in the Box Wednesday  when she noticed smoke coming from the back passenger door.

"I don't think I was thinking anything at the time other than "Let's just get out of the car!"  said Wilson.  She parked the van and was able to unbuckle her five year old son, Brett. But Wilson's four year old daughter, Faith, wouldn't leave the car.  That's when the mysterious man appeared.

"And (he) told them they needed to get far away from the car and my daughter kept wanting to get back to the car because she had dropped her hat. And he said "No, you can't go back to the van. It has gas. It could blow up." And he moved us far away."

The van burst into flames as firefighters arrived within minutes.

"He did come back to apologize for scaring my daughter," recalled Wilson. "He says,'Honey, I'm sorry I scared you, but it was important. And he says, 'I don't have much but I want you to have this." And he handed her a few dollars."

Witnesses said the man headed to a nearby bustop.  The Wilsons don't know who he is, but they say they're very grateful.  Faith summed it up. "Thank you for helping me!"  Fire investigators still don't know what caused the fire.

One thing is for sure. The guy was smart. If he would have stuck around, he would have probably ended up in JAIL. No good deed goes unpunished. If you see something happening in Seattle, the best thing to do is get the heck out of there. If Washington "heroes end up in jail."

First time obedience little girl! When your mother says GET OUT OF THE CAR, then DO IT! There might not always be a Good Samaratin to help out.

Ok I have to admit, It was me and I didn't care about the safety of the little girl, I just wanted to cop a feel. That's why I came back and gave her some "hush Money". Sorry folks, but she did live and I got my reward (so to speak)

This is true heroism and deserves to be lauded. This is not his job. He neither received nor asked for recognition. He had nothing to gain and much to lose. Quiet heroism used to be respected as the ultimate in performance. Good to see it still occasionally appears.
