MUKILTEO, Wash. - When his delivery from Amazon did not show up right away last week, Chris Wright assumed the East Coast weather was to blame.

But after FedEx told him the package had been delivered, Wright decided to check his security cameras.  The video showed FedEx delivering his package around 1 p.m. Thursday, and another car driving by to pick it up about three hours later.

"Pretty infuriating," Wright said.  "It's a very petty crime.  And it's pretty stupid to do it in a day where you can get security equipment for really cheap."

Wright bought the two security cameras about a year ago after someone broke into his car.  They are hanging right over his garage door, just outside of his entryway.

"The cameras aren't exactly hidden," he said.  "They're pretty obvious to anyone that takes more than five seconds to look around."

The video shows a white vehicle, which Wright believes to be a 1999 Hyundai Sonata, pulling up to his home.  One man gets out of the back seat, walks over to the door, picks up the package and walks back to the car.  The car then backs up into Wright's driveway before pulling away, although it is still difficult to make out the license plate.

It appears at least two other people are in the suspect's car.  Wright turned over a copy of the video to Mukilteo Police.

Wright collects and restores pinball machines, and the package contained equipment to polish pinball machine parts.  Amazon immediately sent him a new polisher at no extra cost.

From here on out, Wright plans to either have packages delivered to his work or a relative's house, or use signature confirmation.

An apartment building I lived in four years ago had no problems with people stealing packages out from in front of our doors. There were a lot of drug problems and iffy people but they were mostly honest. BUT If someone was moving out and their things were placed in the breezeway or they left their door unlocked while they were moving there were those that helped themselves. Strangely enough.. things on the front decks were left untouched. Go figure. I now live in downtown Seattle in a secure building. Our manager will accept packages for us. It's awesome. He doesn't like the 'stickers' to be left out near the call box where anyone can steal them. I never thought I would, but I really like living in a secure building.

I am not allowed to have packages shipped to my place of employment. I DO have a post office box but many online retailers wont accept that. What to do, what to do?

Same thing happend to me a few years back. I live on a busy street and UPS didn't even try to hide it. I now have everything shipped to my work. Problem solved.

There's another solution available. A number of years ago I had some mail stolen and also some trouble with the postal service trying to collect mail held while we were on vacation. To solve those problems I rented a private mailbox at Mailboxes Plus in Mukilteo and now have all mail, UPS and FedEx packages delivered there where they are secure until I can pick them up. The cost is nominal when you consider the possible losses due to packages left on doorsteps or porches when residents are away. It's worth looking into.

I spent a good part of my childhood growing up on Capitol Hill in Seattle. My family managed an apartment building there. When people who moved out left crappy furniture behind we would play a game of 'see how long it will sit on the street'. All but the most vile of furniture would disappear with in two days. We even had people take the Christmas reef off the front gate.

This isn't new. We've had this happen more than a couple of times now over the years. FedEx is among the worst, though Caltrac isn't far behind; their recent delivery guys just haphazardly leave the packages lying about for anyone to see. At least UPS actually tries to hide the packages. One UPS driver described that they've actually had people follow their trucks around in, wait for them to finish in a particular neighborhood, then sweep in to pick up whatever was delivered once the delivery truck has cleared out.

Maybe the guy who stole thee box needed to shine his own balls. Hopefully someone will shine them for him in jail.

If I am not mistaken, when the vehicle backs up cant you see the license plate? We should have a "package" waiting on them when they get home

Stupid thieves probably won't know what to do with his package. I would think working at Burger King would be more lucrative, and smarter. Although, not noticing the video cameras makes this thief look pretty dumb, maybe under-qualified to work fast food.

What a scum bag this dude is. I work for a delivery company and we sometimes have this problem. It is wise to let your driver know where to leave your packages, but don't leave a note on the front door.. "Please leave my package at the backdoor.... or behind the bush." Leave specific delivery instructions with the shipper. People who steel packages usually can read, and the note is just an invitation for thief's to go snooping on your property. Also if your package isn't delivered on it'd due date, look for a door tag. The driver most likely didn't leave the package due to the neighborhood or the fact your house is located near a high traffic area. P.S.... Residents of Fircrest, University Place and Tacoma beware there is a man reported to be driving a Red Nissan stealing packages. And to the MAN DRIVING THE RED NISSAN, the POLICE ARE ON TO YOU AND YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED!!!!!

Just got my DVR set up. It's a lot easier than you think. For about 2 grand, and some computer know-how... you can do a lot of pretty advanced stuff with these things. For example, it could send you a email to ur blackberry/Iphone everytime someone walks in front of the camera, or have a beep alert. If you really know a little bit of electronics, there's an serial port output which you can use it to hook it up to some relays to turn to switch on some lights like through X-10, Z-Wave, Insteon, etc... The possibilities are limitless...

I, too, get all my packages delivered to work after a FedEx package with a tracking number was stolen right out of my mailbox. I switched to a locking mailbox after that too. In this day and age, you can't be too careful. I actually suspected my neighbor since I had witnessed them "accidentally" going through my mail before. That's great that this guy was able to catch it on film.

We have had the same problem a few times at our home in Tacoma. They used to leave packages at the back door if no one was home but not anymore. We now have all packages delivered to work.
