A Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Wednesday after officers said he lost control of his motorcycle while getting on Interstate 5.
It happened around 8:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Smokey Point. The sheriff's office said the motorcycle flipped off of the road.
"A couple of guys from the National Guard that were, just happened to be there, stopped and blocked his motorcycle with their car. They stayed tending to him, aiding him before aid folks arrived," said Trooper Keith Leary of the Washington State Patrol.
The deputy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with minor injuries.
All lanes were shut down for the investigation, creating a back-up of several miles, but traffic was able to sneak by on the shoulder.
This was one of several accidents to clog the morning commute Wednesday. A multi-vehicle collision in the I-5 express lanes at Northgate created a 10 mile backup for people driving into Seattle.
