SEATTLE – A memorial procession will wind from the University of Washington campus to KeyArena Friday, where a service will be held to honor Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton.

Brenton was shot and killed Halloween night when a gunman pulled up next to his patrol car and shot the officer. Brenton's rookie partner, Officer Britt Sweeney, survived the shooting.

The public memorial at KeyArena begins at 1 p.m. Doors will open at 11 a.m.

Procession route

The vehicles will depart at 9 a.m. from the E-1 parking lot just north of Husky Stadium. The procession will then follow this route:

-South on Montlake Boulevard NE to 24th Avenue E
-South on 24th Avenue E to 23rd Avenue E
-South on 23rd Avenue E to E Madison Street
-West on E Madison Street to E Pine Street
-West on E Pine Street to Broadway Avenue
-North on Broadway Avenue to E Denny Way
-West on E Denny Way to 1st Avenue N
-North on 1st Avenue N to Mercer Street (KeyArena)

Traffic impact

Drivers should expect delays as approximately 1,000 to 1,500 vehicles will be involved in the procession. No other traffic will be allowed on the route between 9 a.m. and noon, and no other traffic will be allowed to cross the route. Drivers are advised to anticipate congestion near the route, especially as mourners line the course.

1st Avenue N and Mercer Street will be closed when the procession arrives at those locations. Roads around Seattle Center will also be closed to traffic to provide parking.
