MARYSVILLE, Wash. - A Marysville middle school principal could lose that post because of low test scores.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports that the Marysville School Board on Monday will consider whether to remove Totem Middle School principal Judy Albertson. She is one of hundreds of teachers nationwide who could be forced out of jobs. New federal regulations provide more money but require major changes for low-performing schools, including sometimes replacing principals and teachers.

Many parents, teachers and students are upset they could lose Albertson. District officials say she has done a good job and will be offered another position if she is removed from Totem.

Teachers. What would we do without teachers? Serioiusly? I think that the majority become teachers because they want to actually help children. But what are you going to do when a parent dumps their child off at school with the half-wit excuse of "s/he's your problem now?" Kids are smart little suckers, even the ones with "behavior problems." Teachers want to encourage and believe that children can reach beyond what socieity views as their potential, but when the parents/gaurdians are not involved, the child isn't going to succeed. Teachers and parents make up a lot of the team that a child needs in order to succeed in school. Parents get your a**es in there and know what is going on. If your child is being disrespectful and refuses to do school work, do something about it. Be honest and stop blaming other people for your issues. A teacher is not there to parent the children, but to teach. Blaming the teachers is not going to change the situation.

As a middle school teacher, I agree that responsibility falls on our shoulders to provide students with the best opportunity to learn. I also realize that most people that are posting negative comments toward educators haven't been in a classroom lately. Teaching is the easy part of our job, unfortunately many of us spend more class time dealing with interruptions (ie. discipline issues) than we do teaching. Students today bring a whole lot more attitude and defiant behavior than in the past. I think we all need to quit point fingers and start seeing the big picture. We need to work together to solve the problem, not expect someone else to do your part.

The principal is the first person responsible for the quality of education in a school. The teachers are the next responsible parties for providing a quality education with the materials they have been given. Some will say that there is never enough resources, but a great teacher with a piece of chalk and a chalk board can make a world of difference in the lives of our children. When a principal performs poorly and when a teacher performs poorly they are responsible and should be held accountable. We can't keep giving poor performers a free ride especially in our schools. This is not a popularity contest it is our children's and our country's future we are talking about here.

Hey Tracer - Principals and Teachers are the adults and the "professionals". Everyone hated the "Bush" No Child Left Behind - now Obama has made it tougher! Just like everyone hated "Bush's" war - yet Obama continues to send troops! And I didn't vote for theman. But making teachers responsible is logic!

How terribly convenient it is today to throw principals and teachers under the bus. Who is the #1 teacher in a student's life? Answer... the Parent. Exactly when does a student become responsible for his/her own education? Answer... Never. It'll be someone else's fault if they fail/drop out. Of course teachers and administrators need to be held accountable, but the Obama plan (I voted for the man) to axe low-performing schools like this is ludicrous!

Marysville should replace a lot of teachers, counselors, administrators and the Board. Every excuse I receive from teachers is they don't have time to do whattheyare suppose to do and/or they have way too many children in their classes and are unable to do their jobs effectively. What about that levi money for smaller class sizes??? Instead they set up half a dozen or more small learning communities within each high school. While the idea is a good one whatever you call it; each one has their own principal, vice-principal, and admin staff. Now that is your wasted money.
