SEATTLE – A man was seriously hurt when he tried to jump onto a moving Sound Transit Light Rail train near the International District / Chinatown station on Sunday afternoon.

The 32-year-old man ended up being wedged between the train and the platform, Seattle Fire spokesman Kyle Moore said.

Authorities called for a heavy rescue but they were able to get the man out without it.

The man was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Light Rail and bus service was temporarily interrupted in the Downtown Transit Tunnel due to the accident.

Don't they have signs on the platforms that tell you NOT to stand within "x" amount of space from the edge of the platform? Don't they have an overhead recording telling people not to stand on the yellow lines? Honestly, I'd have to know more about this story, but, between what clawbles said, and what King is reporting, there aren't enough facts for me to make a final opinion. I am just glad it didn't end any worse than it could have.

it seems a little iffy to me, there was blood coming from his mouth and nose, i would think at least a concussion? and the blood from his mouth was definitely not his teeth, or nose, i don't know he was not responsive for at least 17 minutes, and he was not breathing for at least 3 minutes. I'm no doctor but what i saw seemed to be much more then a broken nose...

I asked someone I know who works at Metro about his condition, and if the info I got back was accurate (and I have no reason to doubt it), this man is VERY lucky. According to the person I talked to, the worst of his injuries was a broken nose.

I was there yesterday when it happened, i did not see him when he got hit but i did see his swollen bloody face and it was shocking. My heart and prayers go out to him and his family. This was like an eye opener and just shows me how short life is and how alot of us including myself do not value our life or try to make the best of it. Im not sure if alcohol had anything to do with this but in my opinion alchohol during the games should be a bit more restrictive. What happened was awful and I hope he is doing well and has survived this. The people who are making fun of what happened, shame on you.

This report really bothers me, I was standing about 6 feet from the man, and my boyfriend was a first responder who started emergency procedures until medics arrived, The man didn't even see it coming, and I can say every game we go to we joke about death by train, lets see no arms that go down, short warning sequence, alcohol, and celebrating a victory all played a roll in this collision. It was definitely tragic! the poor man, he was cheering with my boyfriend seconds before this, a whole group of us stopped, but with everyone cheering and carrying on conversation he obviously didn't realize the dinging was for the train and definitely didn't see the red "stop here" signs painted on the ground, No signs at eye level, no bars coming down, just 2 flashing lights and a dinging noise. Pretty amazing this doesn't happen more often when funneling hundreds of seahawks fans right through the tracks, after most have consumed enough alcohol to have a nice glow...

The light rail train MAY have been at ground level, but the platform wasn't.

The issue is, How did the man get close enough to the train to either "get hit" or " fall" in the path of the train? And really it wont matter whether its sound transit, the sounder or amtrack, its still a train.

@phredphlinstone. Get your facts straight. ST ( Sound Transit ) operates BOTH heavy rail Trains ( Sounder ) arriving and departing King street station as well as Light rail trains running in the Downtown Bus tunnel. The train involved in this incident IS a Sound Transit Light Rail Train. OWNED by Sound Transit. Just like the " SOUNDER " trains that depart King street station.

Sad to see so many smartass comments from some here. Clawbles thank you for your comment .. your report certainly sounds more plausible than what King5's reported so far. My thoughts are with this young man, his family & friends.

Chinatown station? Try International District station. Sound Transit train? no those leave the King Street Station. Try Light rail they are different. Journalism has been getting sloppy lately with the details.

When will people learn the train will always win. Another man in a hurry trying to make the train then gets hit by the train and now in the hospital.

I was standing 10 feet from this man when he was HIT by the train. This story is inaccurate in almost every way! The man was turned around looking to see why people were yelling when he was struck by the train and thrown into the air. He hit the fencing next to the train and was forced back down beneath the train. The man did not know what had happened until it was done and he most certainly did not, "jump onto a moving Sound Transit train." This reporting of this tragic incident is simply ridiculously inaccurate.
