A man died in a two-alarm fire in a mobile home in Orting early Sunday.
The Orting Valley Fire District says firefighters from Orting Valley, assisted by crews from East Pierce and Graham, responded to the 1:30 a.m. alarm at the intersection of 230th Ave. and Patterson Road.
Firefighters requested a second alarm when they found a heavily involved mobile home with reports of a person trapped.
Help was requested for additional personnel and to provide water support because the area has no fire hydrants.
Several civilians attempted to rescue the occupant of the home through a window of the mobile home, but they could not reach him. One rescuer was injured in the attempt and transported by fire department medic unit to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup with minor injuries.
Crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.
The fire remains under investigation and there were no loss estimates. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
