A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook an area west of Vancouver Island early Sunday, the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network reported.
The quake at 6:22 a.m. occurred about 78 miles south of Port Hardy B.C.
The depth was 3.05 miles.
According to the USGS website, the quake was felt in Nanaimo and Port MacNeill.
There were no reports of injury or damage and there was no danger of a tsunami.
