A laptop containing confidential and personal information of clients of the Department of Social Health Services was stolen.
The laptop belonged to a private contractor and contained information on 652 clients. The theft was discovered on February 4 and the laptop was recovered in a Gig Harbor pawn shop 10 days later.
It appeared the password protection was in place, and there's no evidence that the files were accessed by unauthorized people or used for identity theft.
All 652 clients were notified of the potential breach of their confidential information.
Any DSHS clients who have questions should contact the Community Services Division (CSD) Customer Relations Unit at 1 (800) 865-7801.
