The Knox/Mellas Family released the following statement after an Italian jury announced their guilty verdict in the Amanda Knox murder trial in Italy:

We are extremely disappointed in the verdict rendered today against our daughter. While we always knew this was a possibility, we find it difficult to accept this verdict when we know that she is innocent, and that the prosecution has failed to explain why there is no evidence of Amanda in the room where Meredith was so horribly and tragically murdered. It appears clear to us that the attacks on Amanda's character in much of the media and by the prosecution had a significant impact on the judges and jurors and apparently overshadowed the lack of evidence in the prosecution's case against her.

We want to thank the excellent work by Amanda's attorneys, Carlo Dalla Vedova, Luciano Ghirga and Maria Del Grosso, who successfully showed there was no credible evidence against Amanda and who fought hard on her behalf.

We also want to thank the many supporters both in Seattle and around the world who have contacted us with their support of Amanda and of us. We ask for their continued support.

We will immediately begin the process of appealing this verdict. Amanda is innocent and we will continue to fight for her freedom.

She is totally INNOCENT! First of all I am thinking about Amanda and her parents everyday because I don't know how they can go through this knowing their daughter had nothing to do with this. Because there is not one spec of DNA, sweat, hair, saliva, and blood. Plus there was no cleanup if there was cleanup it would of been impossible for her or Rudy to clean and not clean a piece of Rudy's footprints. I am not going to lie everyday I am on this computer reading about this and just can't get over how she can still be there. I also get very upset sometimes thinking she's there. Somebody has to do something to get her out. Her whole life is ahead of her and she seemed like the smartest girl and sweetest girl who would of done anything for anybody. Please somebody help get this INNOCENT girl out. Stay strong Amanda you are in my thoughts everyday!

I don't believe that Amanda is guilty, but like everyone else that remarks on this site, I don't have enough information to back my beliefs up. It simply amazes me how many people are absolutely sure of her guilt or innocence based upon the reports from the media. It sounds like the Italian lawyers had a hard time sorting fact out in the courtroom, yet we choose to bicker based on opinion. This case is a tragedy from the beginning...from the horrific, senseless death of a young girl, to the possibility of two young people being detained unfairly. I have doubts that the courts feel that they had a clear view of the truth or they would not have lowered the sentence to 25 years. Two more years to wait during an appeal process is a long time...but hopefully, the defense and prosecution will find the truth in all of this. Until then, the families of all of these young adults (the dead and accused) need our support and compassion. Nothing is more inappropriate than misplaced vengeance

They sound like Scott Peterson's parents. Soon they'll be blaming the media. May they find some peace and claiification in this. Its only one person's fault, not Italy, Italian courts, the parent's, or the victrim. It's Amanda's fault. Automatic appeal I understand, she could be home for Christomas. Italy doesn't want her, but maybe the UK does.

You can't bad mouth a country because you had a bad experience. She's guilty thats why she was found guilty. I hate it when the parent's say we know she's innocent. You don't know you werent there. Asa much as you want to think she is innocent, you really don't know. Take it one day at a time and remember to not break laws.

I wonder if we will be able to read of any of the evidence or testimony that was presented? Everything that we are reading is second-hand. There are statements that show some mis-handling by the Police and Investigators. This is a nightmare for the girl and her family. As a parent I would, of course, do everything that I could to get her out of Italy. It seems that their law is one that assumes guilt and you have to prove your innocence. I thought that Italy had already found one man guilty of the murder..what about that? I do know that I would NOT allow any child of mine or anyone that I know go to study in Italy..in fact, I would encourage anyone thinking of visiting Italy to NOT GO!! Our daughter studied in England on an exchange program and then toured Europe afterward...and was not impressed with the Police in Spain or Italy!
