Former FBI Agent says Knox is innocent

SEATTLE - When Steve Moore retired from the FBI in 2008, he planned to do a little teaching and a lot of traveling. He says he certainly didn't plan to take up the cause of a Seattle co-ed doing time in a foreign prison.

Moore says as an FBI agent, he helped take down an Al Qaeda cell that bombed the U.S. Consulate in Karachi. He helped identify a suicide bomber and track down the terrorists who blew up a hotel in Indonesia. He interrogated Buford Furrow, the man who shot up a Jewish day care center in Los Angeles, and got a confession.

In short, for 25 years Steve Moore's job was going after killers and getting convictions.

“I am not the kind of person to go on causes to get people released from jail,” Moore said.

So why is he doing it now, two years after retiring, and for a young woman he’s never met - Amanda Knox.

“If you were a paramedic and saw a car accident, you wouldn't say, ‘I'm retired’ and walk on by,’” Moore said.

Moore says he believes Knox is the accidental victim of a flawed investigation, overzealous prosecutor and a tabloid media frenzy, which tainted the jury that convicted her of murder.

It’s quite an about face. As he followed the Knox hearings and her long murder trial, Moore had no doubt about what the verdict should be.

“Guilty,” said Moore.

And now?

“As certain of her innocence as I am of anything in the world,” said Moore.

It was Moore’s wife who pushed him to get involved after watching a documentary that convinced her Knox was innocent.

Based on his Quantico training, Moore was skeptical and set out to prove his wife wrong.

He says he obtained the Italian trial transcripts, police and autopsy reports and had them translated into English.

He says he watched hours of videotape showing investigators gathering evidence at the crime scene. He says he was startled by what he saw.

“Horror,” he said. “I felt I was looking into some bad dream.” Moore says much of the evidence was so flawed, “It shouldn’t and it wouldn’t have been allowed into any case that I ever tried.”

Moore says just as important was what he didn’t see - any evidence for the prosecution’s theory.

Prosecutors told the jury that Amanda Knox masterminded a drug fueled sex game, with her former boyfriend holding down British student Meredith Kercher, while a drifter named Rudy Guede sexually assaulted Kercher. The prosecutor says Knox slit Kercher’s throat because she refused to take part in the twisted orgy.

But Moore says if that scenario were true there would have been an explosion of DNA from the three attackers spread all over Kercher’s bedroom, where her body was found.

“There was blood everywhere, there were footprints, fingerprints, palm prints, hair fluid samples, DNA of one person,” Moore said. “There is no way that two people could have just levitated over all the blood while one person stepped all through it.”

Lab tests showed that the person who left his prints behind was Guede, who would become the first person convicted for Kercher’s murder.

And there’s another reason that Moore believes Knox is innocent. He says that she doesn’t fit the profile of a violent killer. Nowhere in her history as a University of Washington honor student and all American kid, who played the guitar and excelled at soccer, did she reveal even one sign of a dark disturbed side.

“There’s a thing called leakage,” Moore said, “and leakage is the inability of a person with violent tendencies to control everything.” If you look into their background, “you may find fist fights, cruelty to animals, brushes with the law. There is no way for somebody to be as violent as they say Amanda was that night, without there being a clear pattern leading up to it."

If Moore’s theories are correct, then one wonders why Knox would sign statements that she was in the house when Kercher was murdered, but later change her story.

"That was the most coercive interrogation that I have seen admitted into a court in the last 20 years,” Moore said.

Moore says he has never met Knox’s parents, but has received e-mails thanking him for his interest in Amanda’s case.

Knox is serving a 26-year prison term and is desperately hoping her conviction will be overturned. But her appeals trial is being held in the medieval town of Perugia, the same town where the murder occurred and where Knox was convicted last December.

Oh yeah King-5, FYI most of Europe is medieval, so using such an adjective is a weak move to cast doubt on her conviction, and predjudice people by fostering false rumors. Seattle has a park named after Perugia. Perugia is a University Town where students from around the world come to study. One thing that is rare in Perugia is murder. And people like Amanda Knox.

Foxy Knoxy is a convicted murderer. To watch King-5 showcase ridiculous stories about her being innocent, is embarrassing. After 30 yrs in Western Washington, it still astounds when Locals ( rich ones at that ) , circle the wagons "round one of their own. Welcome to the white power capital of the West Coast. BTW Moore is some "street walker " is"nt he.

blackhat54 - 'Not even the judges agreed with the prosecutor. They didn't approve the proposed evidence and presented case, yet they convict?!!' It is truly wonderful that those supporting a convicted murderer can come out with really clever statements like this! It's also true that Moore is a fluent Italian speaker and qualified lawyer, that Hillary Clinton is lending her full support to the Knox family, and that Knox is set to become a UN goodwill ambassador travelling the world campaigning against drug and knife crime. Everything is absolutely fine, and anybody who says otherwise has no grasp of reality and is involved in an international conspiracy ...Oh, and it's a well known fact that the judges who did not agree with the prosecutor were brainwashed and beaten constantly, along with the jurors, the police, translators, US Embassy staff, the State Dept officials, journalists, etc etc

How amazing are these post! If any of the people who oppose Amanda and Raffaele read anything about what is and isn't there I would be surprised. Not even the judges agreed with the prosecutor. They didn't approve the proposed evidence and presented case, yet they convict?!! What is that,? Your guilty guilty guilty. Lets see if we can't agree that that makes no sense and is not justice or correct? But it is true. So if you believe everyone should be put in jail for a part of their life lets all get together and decide who goes first. Having to change the time of death, create scenario's of how the knife was carried or why, create a cleanup that didn't occur and grabbing the first person you see around dosen't seem much like an investigation to me. As far as Steve's legitimacy, do you see your attack on him? Why because he is FBI? I guess these posters just attack everyone, guilty guilty guilty!

Love the way Steve Moore claims to have paid, personally, for the translation of the case file. There are some 10, 000 pages in that file. Paying a professional translator for that job would likely cost more than Moore's annual after tax salary when he was still with the FBI. I get the feeling his penchant for exaggeration/ misrepresentation is the reason behind the "ex" in ex-FBI.

As anyone whose read the translated documents knows, this evidence proved that Amanda & Raffaele simply wiped up their bloody footprints ex post facto, and left Rudy's untouched for the police to find. Steve Moore did not make the cut for the FBI's elite program for the analysis of violent crime. He was an "assistant attaché" riding a desk. Those gun-toting photos scream, "Look at me, Wifey, we got to hold machine guns today." The real deal FBI agents in the field don't pose for cheesy pictures.

The Kerchers, and anyone else, for that matter, can say whatever they wish in respect of this case. Amanda, Raffaele & Rudy have, all 3, been duly convicted in an open court of competent jurisdiction in a democratic G8 nation. Each was afforded the opportunity to make full answer and defense to the charges, and Amanda & Raffaele spent millions on expensive lawyers & forensic experts doing just that. The appellate process doesn't effectively 'gag' the Kerchers anymore than it does Curt & Edda Knox (although I wish it could silence the Knox's and their disingenuous PR team).Ignorantia legis neminem excusat, "lillytheflower."

Shame on Linda Byron for her ongoing shilling for the Knox PR grifters, and for abetting their misinformation campaign aimed at King5's more gullible viewers and readers. The impression I got from Moore's vacuous comments was that if he is bought and paid for, he would sound like he did in the interview.

It only makes sense that in a violent murder all participant's blood would be all over the place. This case is no different from what you'd expect: the murderer's blood evidence IS all over the murder scene. Mr. Moore has zeroed-in on the most compelling arguement against Amanda and Raffaele's having been a part of this violent crime- you just cannot have extreme violence and yet none of their blood anywhere in the murder room . Rudy has been playing alot of good psychological games with the Perugians (and alot of bloggers). He understands how to manipulate them and has used that knowledge to game the system, play the Perugians like a fife, point the finger to implicate the innocent and get all the attention on someone other than where it should have stayed: on him and the fact of his blood and DNA evidence being all there was to convict on. This case should be named "The Rudy Guede case of the many red-herrings and redirected focus-pocus."

Steve's background was not in violent domestic crimes of rape & murder. It was in the assessment of terrorist threats as an "assistant attaché" reporting to the attaché of a diplomat in a foreign country. As such, Steve would know that "interrogations" in the Middle East can involve mutilation by drill, amputation, etc.. So, how on earth, could he call Amanda's 1.5 hour police interview with 3 female cops, who (as Amanda herself has admitted) gave Amanda tea, cakes & bathroom breaks, the "worst" interrogation he's seen in his 20 years?! Absurd. Seems he's just regurgitating Curt Knox's defamatory remarks about the Italian police in exchange for the chance to speak on Amanda's behalf in order to get on TV & promote his name. As anyone familiar with the case knows, Amanda's panic at the interview was simply induced by the news that her boyfriend, Raffaele, decided to stop backing up her alibi. (To this day, he still won't give Amanda an alibi.)

Talkin' to yourself again, ron/carl? It must be hard to wait between posts to avoid suspicion. Got your movie on in the background for the down times? Hey, you never answered my question about what credentials you hold that give you the right to question Steve Moore's. Now you're doing the same thing to Ciolino, so I have to ask again. If you're going to trash real people, the least you could do is provide support for your claims. If this were Perugia, you'd have been locked up and sued a long time ago.

@ ronulus: I almost forgot about that Paul Ciolino character the Knox's trotted out for CBS "48 Hours"! Remember how he told us that Amanda "NEVER LAID EYES ON" Rudy Guede? Then about year later, at trial, Amanda takes the stand and is forced to admit she not only met Rudy, but smoked dope with him before the murder! I just had to check out Ciolino after that. Turns out he never went to college/ hold NO degrees, never worked as a cop and his only credential is a mail order P.I. license! Steve Moore is a big improvement over that obese moron, but Steve has the same penchant for misrepresenting both his qualifications & the evidence inculpating Amanda. So many freelance hucksters willing to say ANYTHING to get on TV...

One can't help but notice his remark about not having met Knox's parents. He doesn't say that he is not involved with Knox's PR crew, her alleged drunk driving Seattle attorney, and her new attorney who is handling the appeal. He should actually read the court findings. It was a unanimous verdict. Thorough coverage is available at truejusticefor meredithkercher.org. He sounds a lot like the Chicago PI who misrepresented evidence on 48HRS. @ davealexander "It would be nice to hear from the side of the actual victim." you might want to do your research before you post, it makes you look sloppy. It has been reported and known world wide that the Kerchers were told not to say a word to anyone due to the nature of the trial, which is still going on. Seriously, how would YOU know anything about "class"? your post reveals nothing short of a boorish person. "slobbering groupies"? the people interested in justice for wrongly accused people sitting in jail is hardly comparable to people like you "slobbering" over a murdered beauty. " And it's ironic that you ask, "what's with all the middle-aged men who form Amanda's fan-club in the states" because it's not the case here but it does seem quite the case about you people creeping out the rest of us by obsessing about Meredith Kercher who was a gorgeous young woman, Dave. This is just a wonderful story and Steve Moore is very much to be commended for his commitment to true justice. No doubt the psychotic pro-guilt trolls who infest the internet will abuse Mr. Moore, impeach his credentials, and perhaps even attack his family. But Steve Moore has the truth on his side and time always favors the truth. Not too much more time will pass before it will be universally recognized that the magnificent edifice of the prosecutor's case was made of hot air, dust, mouse droppings and bits of wax. It falls apart utterly when scrutinized. The defense absolutely demolished the prosecution case in the trial. But a corrupt judge, operating in the clubby little hothouse of Perugia, sat on a jury and he and his associate got a bunch of dazed and biased jurors to convict. His "motivations" report is one of the most disgraceful documents of its type I have ever read. Read the appeals documents prepared by Amanda and Raffaele's lawyers. They're absolutely compelling.

Go to youtube and search on ' The Missing Video Original ' You will see Meredith arriving at her driveway at 8:53 pm which is where she should be based on time, distance and average walking speed for young individuals. Notice the time stamp was removed from the video. That was no accident. The police said Guede and Meredith arrived at the same time. Do you smell a rat? where is the time stamp? The widow was busted where Guede entered. He was there first. Put 2 and 2 together. What do you get? The coat and shoes the man is wearing were confirmed to be the same as Guede's. Meredith entered not knowing he was there, went to her room, called her mom at 8:56 pm. Guede attacked her and interrupted the call before her mom could answer. Proof shows Amanda and Raffaele were not there. Listen to Steve More. The original video would have a time stamp. A&R were convicted with BS.

Amanda has never smoked drugs or gone with dirty Italian boys, and that picture of her with the machine gun is a false one. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF! TRUTH WILL PREVAIL!!! (hey, disturbing, when are me and Judge Steve gonna see some dollar for our trouble?)

You people out there that don't care, don't want to get involved, or do not have the time. If you ever get thrown in jail for a crime you did not so, you better hope there are some people around like us to help you, or you will sit in that hole forever. None of us are being paid for our effort. If you want to change this world then you need to take a stand. If you don't this world will continue as it has in the past. We can't change history, but if you are willing, we can change the future. Do not tolerate injustice anywhere. Stand up for yourself.

Why is it that so many are so sure Knox is guilty? There is such vehemence here that it is so clear she murdered the poor girl.. So many are sure that OJ killed his ex-wife but he was found innocent. Can't the judicial system make mistakes? Isn't it our duty to make sure zealousness on the part of police and prosecutors don't over shadow any facts? Can't a jury be wrong? If the event had occurred in the US with it's measure of law I think she never would have gone to trial.

“It shouldn’t and it wouldn’t have been allowed into any case that I ever tried.” It is truly wonderful that we have a proper Italian-speaking Judge like Judge Steve joining Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, in fighting this false verdict. Both of these legal experts know that this verdict was based on anti-American prejudice and hatred, and that now they are working together to overturn this injustice in Perugia. The worst lies of all were that Amanda took drugs and slept with a dirty Italian boy, but we know that this is all lies because Judge Steve has studied the videos and watched lots of TV and knows that none of this is true. Judge Steve also agrees with Amanda that the black guy did it. Judge Steve should write a book about this and make a whole lot of money!

My honest opinion: The rats are coming out of the wood work trying to protect the real murderer who is beyond any doubt Rudy Guede, and the prosecutor is currently a convicted criminal awaiting his appeal. The prosecutor was convicted for abusing his power and the charges he brought against 20 people were dropped. " There is no error so monstrous that it fails to find defenders among the ablest of men" Lord Acton If you will take the time to study the evidence in detail as I have and evaluate the details you will clearly see that Amanda Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito are both beyond any doubt innocent, and they should be released from prison immediately. Google injusticeinperugia, look at the crime scene photos, read Steve's evaluation, read the honest research and you will see it was a den of snakes that put them in prison for a crime that Rudy Guede committed alone. Currently you can not rely on wikipedia as a reliable source of information about this case.

Amanda and Raffaele are both completely innocent. They were not present when Meredith was murdered. This is another case like the West Memphis Three, the Norfolk Four, Barry George, Lindy Chamberlain, etc. etc. etc. where the police and prosecutor have staked their reputations on a crackpot theory, and they are determined to make it stick at the expense of innocent people. BUT WE WON'T LET THEM.

A lot of comments pushing the "injustice" website! It's an amateur blog financed by Amanda's Dad. (Says so in the West Seattle Herald.)

Steve Moore ----"I will only say of the interrogation, that if any FBI Agents I supervised had conducted that interrogation in the U.S., I would have had them indicted. I am not surprised that Amanda made incriminating and conflicting statements in such a horrible situation. I am more surprised that under that duress, she didn’t make more incriminating (but ultimately false) statements. Hypothetically, any trained investigator operating for many hours without rules, in a foreign language, slapping and threatening a naïve, frightened girl just out of her teens and in a foreign country, (denying her food, sleep and the right to an attorney and Consular advice) can get her to say just about anything. If this was the medical profession, one might deem such activities “intentional malpractice”.------ Read more at : injusticeinperugia

If Steve had qualified for training in Analysis of Violent Crime at Quantico (which he did not) he wouldn't keep making the same mistakes: over-looking Amanda's Seattle court record, eliding the luminol, DNA & blood evidence indicating Amanda & Raffaele didn't "levitate", as he said, but simply wiped up their footprints and left Rudy's alone for the cops to find. Steve was "an assistant to an assistant to a diplomat" in a foreign post, which involved assessing terrorist threats, not analyzing domestic rapes and murders. He never made the FBI's cut for the NCAVC.

Notice how Steve said "in all the cases I've tried" as if he were a lawyer. He's not. In fact, he's so ignorant of the lexicon of law that he did a KIRO interview (about a month ago) where he said the prosecutor in Perugia would "go to jail" if he failed to win a conviction of Knox & her Italian boyfriend.

This is the training Steve the "assistant attaché" never got at the FBI: National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC) at Quantico, Virginia. It is an exciting world of investigation and research — a world of inductive and deductive reasoning; crime-solving experience; and knowledge of criminal behavior, facts, and statistical probabilities. Special Agents are not eligible for positions at the NCAVC until they have three years of experience. Because the positions are so competitive, however, individuals selected usually possess eight to ten years of experience as a Special Agent. The NCAVC employs Special Agents with a variety of backgrounds. The most important qualifications include overall experience as an investigator specializing in violent crimes, particularly homicides, rapes, child abductions, and threats. Please see our list of NCAVC Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the NCAV

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your professional opinion on this case, and for your service to the country, Mr. Moore. Having people like you talk about this case shows there is hope to bring Amanda and Raffaele home where they belong and allow there to be true justice. The charade of this tragedy has gone on for far too long. Thank you, Linda and KING-5 for bringing this to the world.

Thank you for this excellent interview. Steve Moore has written a series of articles about this case. These articles can be read at the Injustice in Perugia website. Support continues to build for Amanda and Raffaele. Steve Moore is proof of that support. There is a large group of people who will not rest until Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are fully exonerated and back home with their families.

Notice the careful tricks: he work involved "MASS murders." That's terrorism. A bomb in a public square. Moreover, he was an assistant attaché riding a desk. Check out the FBI website. There are 2 career tracks: attaché, riding a desk & assisting diplomats in foreign countries; and a field agent investigating domestic crimes "chasing bad guys" *as the FBI put it in a pod cast describing the differences. Steve was the former, not the latter. That explains why he missed Amanda's increasing use of street drugs, Amanda's Seattle arrest/ court record for "residential disturbance", wherein she was issued a police warning for rock throwing, her cruel "my people killed your people killed your people" cut to a Jewish coworker in Seattle, and rumours of a April Fools Day "rape prank"/ hazing she pulled on a roommate at UW. A bona fide expert in domestic homicides/ behavioral sciences would not gloss over such things.

This was a fascinating interview with Steve Moore. It's was great to hear from a professional FBI agent on their opinion of the complicated case. It is clear that there has been a wrongful conviction of Amanda Knox case. I hope common sense will prevail and she will be released.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. The prosecutor was subsequently found guilty of abuse of office and illegally wiretapping journalists in a separate case, which certainly makes one question his work on the Knox case. He even tried to bring an action against one of our local papers for libel because he didn't like the coverage -- what a whiner!
