WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Democratic-controlled Congress has approved historic legislation extending health care to tens of millions of Americans who lack it and cracking down on insurance company abuses.

The vote in the House was 219-212. Republicans were unanimously opposed.

Washington state Democrats Brian Baird, Norman Dicks, Jay Inslee, Rick Larsen, Jim McDermott and Adam Smith voted in favor of the bill. Republicans Doc Hastings, Cathy McMorris Rodgers and David Reichert voted against it.

Oregon Democratic Reps. Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, Kurt Schrader and David Wu have voted in favor of historic health care overhaul legislation. Oregon Republican Greg Walden voted against it.

Democratic Rep. Brian Baird of Vancouver voted yes, changing his stance from last fall -- when he voted no on the health care proposal.

Baird said in a statement Sunday that the nation's health care system can't be sustained and must be improved.

Baird was one of a handful of Democrats who broke party rank and voted against health care overhaul last November.

Baird is not seeking re-election this year.

Greetings, Bob I come in Peace. You and I are living in historic times. It's a historic health care reform bill not the marshal bringing us a new law. This bill says it will crack down on insurance company abuses. Please if you can, just for a moment, give our representatives a break. When they come back from break they can start reforming. Reforming something is not an easy thing to do. First our representatives will have to form a task force and establish a profile of one who uses an insurance company and one who abuses an insurance company. When this task force presents this profile our representatives will then sign a new and improved historic health care reform bill. Personally,I'm figuring I will be pushing up daisies before this bill becomes a histarical health care reform law.

I contacted Congressman Adam Smith. Yeah, my rep in my district. I pointed out many concerns, the pesky facts and my opposition to the health care bill. I got a scripted email back sent by either automation or a staffer that only tried to address one of my concerns. Not impressed Mr. Smith! Called Mr. Brian Baird. Tried to leave a voicemail. Guess what? "This persons voicemail is full, please call back at another time"...hmft worthless. Not impressed Mr. Baird. Both voted for this? and EVERY democrat from WA state? Even if your a liberal you have to agree that there are many others that are NOT democrat of Republican. Can you see the problem here? Got bad news for democrats..gone! And you republicans in sheep's clothing? I can smell you from the next mountain range. Better take an inventory on who you are.

Did you hear about the lifeguard who saved a drowning man. The crowd on the beach cheered. Then someone said "You saved a Congressman" The crowd grew silent and then began chanting " THROW HIM BACK, THROW HIM BACK!!!!"

Ok. There is a Tea Party and a Coffee Party. How about a Clean House Party... To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. – Thomas Jefferson

patriciamanning - Good thinking! You have spoken words of great wisdom and hope for change. I'm glad that the "Age of Liberals" is finally coming to an abrupt and violent end. Like two steam locomotives coming together. CRASH! With Jim McDermott & Norm Dicks right in the middle of it all, like two dead dawgs... Hah! Hah! Hah!

gritz - No... You're right. I didn't vote for liberal Democrats during the last election. I was NOT a registered voter in the State of Washington during the last election. I'm also not a TeaBagger... I'm not from here OK? I came here to get rich by practicing real estate law. And Yes... I certainly AM leading the charge this year because it's high time for "Your Kind" to be put out to pasture... Hey, handwritings on the wall, pal. Just look at the postings by the educated and productive people like "mr_conservative" and "mtfield." It's time for you Liberals to go the way of Jack Abramoff and Bernie Madoff for your crimes against society and humanity. I would LOVE to see your Gritz in the CJC program. (Cold Jail Cell program) Now put that in your pipe and smoke it. Hah! Hah! Hah!

That's it. I'm done banging my head against the wall. I'm quitting my job and getting a government position so I never have to work again. There is no point in working when the government steals over 90% of what you earn in direct and hidden taxes. Maybe I'll go on the dole. Or, maybe I'll just tell them I'm a Mexican without "documents." That way I can get free health care, food, a good apartment, and free tuition at UW. Thank you Obama and Haywire. We can all stop working. We have "RIGHTS!"

I will financially and physically support any candidate running against the incumbent, arrogant, eliteist who voted for the health care monstrosity. Shame on them for not listening to their voters.

What, no outrage about sweeping Socialism? Are the tea-baggers still in bed with a hangover? This legislature uses the market to force health-care providers to reel in costs, isn't that Con core belief #1?

carlconstantine - Did you vote for this liberal Congressman in the last election? No, you didn’t. So why are you acting like you are leading a charge now? You and most of you "Teabaggers" didn’t vote for them last time and they won by landslides. You think that the liberals that won the last election are now going to loose because they voted for liberal projects. Does that make sense to you? The Republican party lost in red states last election and now you want to take one election in Massachusetts as a mandate for your side; Really!!,so what was the 2008 vote? Maybe your argument would make more sense in Pennsylvania or Florida but not here. You’re wasting your immense writing skills here. I suggest you direct your talents to the Drudge Reports. The brain dead there might even think you are intelligent, like Sarah Palin.

Rep. Larsen earned my vote in November! Yesterday leaned that Americans don't believe the BIG LIE that the neo-confederates have been spouting. Health care is a right for all, not a privilege granted to those with the $$$. God bless America.

Our own Potentate of Pork (Norm Dicks) voted for this travesty along with the rest of NW Democrats? Who'd a thunk it? Enough liberalism...it's ruining the country. Our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves.

OK, let's totally disregard everything that they voted for, just like they do when the general public votes... (actually that would be King County) Nevertheless, let's vote them out of office in the next election. Sweeping changes from the day in - day out, liberal Democrat politics as usual. Do I have any takers?
