A Federal Way man faces felony hit and run charges after police say he drove into the front yard of a home, hit two young girls and took off.

The 8 and 12 year olds suffered cuts and bruises but are expected to be ok.
This happened around 7:00pm Friday night on the 25700 block of 16th Avenue South in Des Moines.

According to Des Moines police, the 52-year-old driver was speeding when he hit a parked car. He then barreled through some bushes and struck the girls.

The driver sped away but witnesses say told police they were able to get his license plate number. Police tracked it to a home in Federal Way. They found him and his 2012 Nissan Rogue.

Rachel McKittrick lives in the Des Moines neighborhood where the girls were playing. With 6 young kids, speeding cars are her worst fear.

“Sometimes when I’m walking down the street, I think I’m going to get hit. I’m 7 months pregnant, that would be two murders on their hands,” said McKittrick.

Des Moines police say drugs or alcohol don’t appear to be a factor in the crash.
