Snow in the Cascade passes

Heavy snow made things difficult for drivers trying to get over the Washington Cascades Monday, the roads were clearing up as rain began to fall in the late morning.

Traction tire requirements at Snoqualmie and Blewett passes were lifted by noon. Traction tires were still required for Stevens pass and vehicles over 10,000 pounds were required to use chains. Traction tires were advised on White Pass.

KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott expects rain or snow showers in the mountains Monday. Snow levels will be between 4,000 and 5,000 feet. One to three inches of additional snow is possible during the day above 4,5000 feet. Latest Forecast

Traffic could be heavier over the passes as people return home from a three-day Veterans Day Weekend.
