TACOMA, Wash. -- Pierce County authorities responded to a hazmat situation at a Washington State Patrol office in Tacoma.

State patrol said someone left a liquid substance at a trooper's residence Tuesday morning.

"(The trooper) walked out to his patrol car and realized some sort of liquid substance had been dumped on his patrol car," said Guy Gill, Washington State Patrol spokesman.

The trooper found the bottle where the substance came from next to his car. The trooper placed the bottle in a plastic bag, then brought it and the patrol car to the Washington State Patrol Office on 112th Street East in Tacoma.

"It's like a white, milky substance is the best way I can describe it. We're not sure what it is," said Gill. "These things are in place now to make sure if it is hazardous, no one gets exposed to it."

The trooper was taken to a hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

Gill said it could take several days before they receive tests back which will determine what the substance is.

Gill said there is no risk to the public and no reason for evacuations.

It's unfortunate that so many here do not think before they speak. This article makes no mention as to where the officer lived and its relative distance from the station on 112th. It may have been a few blocks away for all that is known. Also, we are not privy to communications that could have been made: the officer would have called ahead to report the hazmat possibilities, etc. Furthermore, its a precaution to take someone to the hospital when possibly exposed to a hazardous material substance regardless the distance traveled between point A and point B.

get rid of them and put traffic cameras on the FWY....make money and have less congestion because some trooper wont be sitting on the side of the road reading a book. DOT can handle any other problems for less money..

DRIVING A POSSIBLE CONTAMINATED VEHICLE ACROSS TOWN DOES FALL INTO THE "HOMER SIMPSON" CATEGORY OF "STUPID THINGS I DID TODAY", HE SHOULD HAVE STUCK A FINGER IN IT AND TASTED IT, LIKE THEY DO ON TV !! ... SERIOUSLY THOUGH ...

I trooper kicked a bucket to the side of the road a few decades ago and died of cancer that started in his leg. This occurred in Eastern Washington near the Hanford Facility. The bucket was not marked in anyway what so ever. That trooper died from the exposure. A family or any of the people that blog here could have run over the bucket exposing themselves and hundreds of others to that substance. PRECAUTIONS are in place for a reason. Have fun with your jokes but think about the dead trooper and his family as you do.

I am quite certain that if this trooper were employed by a professional transport company and made the decision to travel across town with an uncontained unknown substance he would lose his job.

Kinda silly to drive a patrol car across town with a possible HAZMAT material on it. What if it is something horrible? Then were on the hook cleaning up miles and miles of this garbage. Who is training these idiots?

If he was un-injured, why the trip to the ER? WASTE, WASTE, WASTE in Washington!"

Hey! I read this article twice and the second time see a different story. The first article stated "there was no reason to evacuate" and "the officer was not hurt, but had been taken to a local hospital as a precaution". Why does the above article omit that sentence? Because the citizens would be upset to see another instance of waste of the taxpayers' money? If he was un-injured, why the trip to the ER? WASTE, WASTE, WASTE in Washington!
