REDMOND, Wash. -- Gymnastics clubs from around the country are sending cards and money to Jacoby Miles, the 15-year-old girl who was paralyzed from mid-chest down after an accident on the uneven bars Friday night.

Emerald City Gymnastics in Redmond hopes to raise $50,000 by Thanksgiving. That is not Miles' gym, but it is home to some of Miles' closest friends, including Mary Jacobsen.

"We're really, really close and she always helps me through everything," Jacobsen said.  "She has amazing faith in God and so I know that will get her through this."

As of Monday, the gym had collected $3,000, with many more money-filled cards on the way.

Miles was practicing a routine move at Roach Gymnastics in Sumner Friday night when she accidentally landed on her neck, injuring -- but not severing -- her spinal cord.

She underwent about six hours of surgery at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and could be moved to Children's Hospital to begin rehabilitation as early as Wednesday.

Miles cannot feel her hands, wrists or anything from mid'chest down.   Doctors have told her family that it is possible she could regain use of her hands and wrists, but walking again will be much more difficult.  Still, friends and relatives are hoping for "a miracle."

"We're just ready to start this battle and try to encourage her to give it all she's got," said Jason Miles, her father.  "We just know God's going to do things through her and that's our hope and prayer for her."

Roach Gymnastics is also working to raise money for the family.  And gym owner Melanie Roach, a former Olympic weightlifter, is donating all proceeds from her new book to the Miles family.  For more informaton on how to help, visit http://www.goteamjacoby.com/.
