Amanda Knox is no doubt spending an agonizing weekend in prison.  What do you say when you are fighting for your life, your freedom?

When she delivers her speech to the jury Monday a contingent from Seattle will be listening to every word.

Candace Dempsey never expected to become transfixed by the Amanda Knox story. Yet she's in Perugia waiting for a verdict.

"What happens next, I'm dying to know is she going to get out on Monday night, which is what I think or am I going to be completely wrong about the Italian people,” she said.

Dempsey was a travel writer, but the Knox case changed that.

"I wanted to write a book kind of surreal to me, I'm holding this book.  Wasn't the book I intended to write,” she said.

The book is "Murder in Italy." Dempsey says as she watched the trial unfold, she came to believe that Knox and her former Italian boyfriend didn't kill Meredith Kercher - and she made a prediction.

“Became convinced that if the forensic evidence were reviewed by independent experts, Amanda will go free,” she said.

Unlike Dempsey, Andrew Seliber and Jessica Nichols never doubted Knox's innocence.  They've visited her in prison and try to attend as many court sessions as possible.

The pair say listening to the prosecution this week has been hard.

"It's very hard because I know that's absolutely not who she is," said Seliber. "It's 180 degrees in the opposite direction, but it's even harder for me to know that she has to hear that kind of character assassination all the time."

With a verdict drawing near Amanda's supporters grow increasingly anxious and hopeful.

Dempsey finds herself making a visit to the house where Kercher died.

"To remember that it wasn't just a novel or a move but that something terrible happened to Meredith Kercher in real life, and to Amanda Knox as well, and to try to understand how we got to this place that we're in right now, where we have two people in prison for this crime that they did not commit," she said.,” she said.

On Monday, the defense team can give a final rebuttal. Both Knox and Sollecito can make their pleas directly to the jury.

The case then heads to deliberations and then a verdict.

Whatever the outcome, both sides can still appeal the verdict to the Italian supreme court.

Hmm well it is a fun thing to watch, a few bits of jungle fever, a touch of overly promiscuous Seattle gal, and the thrill kill to add some spice... birds of a feather do flock together..... keep her in Italy. This is no heroine of a Greek tragedy... not at all!

Here's Knox's mother letting the cat out of the bag for Matt Lauer last week on NBC. She revealed that she asked Knox's lawyers if they thought Knox was innocent, but that they were evasive and, instead, affirmed only that they loved Knox! When lawyers evade questions like that, it is because they do not want to lie, and yet Mellas is puzzled by their evasiveness! We know the lawyers have to grapple with the mounds of evidence against Knox--e.g., Knox's lie about Lumumba, her lies about her whereabouts, her lack of alibi from Sollecito (who has affirmed twice that Knox was NOT in his apartment with him on the night of the murder as she claimed she was), Sollecito's claim that he lied to the police because he believed Knox's lies, 31 pieces of DNA evidence not subject to the independent experts' report, the staged break-in, and Knox's admission--reconfirmed by her in writing accepted by the court--that she was in the house when the murder occurred. Arrivederci, Amanda!

While some cry justice for Meredith and the Kercher family, do you not remember that there is another man in jail convicted of killing her. Remember he admitted to being with her the night she was killed but claims he had left. Knox and her bf are the ones who found her the next day and called police. The pics of them on the news the day it happened looking like scared rabbits not murderers. If they are so guilty why did they come back around and not flee or hide?

Proudamerican, your pride is wholly false. It is the arrogance and egotism of someone who has not a clue of the facts of this case - has never examined the real evidence but only the predigested and filtered hate dished out by the guilters. You are a traitor to your own nation when you do not even attempt to understand how and why your fellow American is being attacked! THERE IS NO EVIDENCE AGAINST AMANDA KNOX AND THERE NEVER WAS ANY! SHE WAS SET UP! And you are abandoning her - your sister and your daughter. It is as if you were abandoning a solder captured, imprisoned and tortured by the enemies of your nation! If you actually understood the truth of this case, you would not be able to live with your shame - or else you simply have no shame left to have to live with at all!

I cannot quite figure out how a poster can say Amanda is "not fighting for her life". You think taking an innocent 20-year-old and casting her into prison for the rest of her life is not STEALING HER LIFE? Oh, Amanda would still be able to breathe and write longing letters home to her family. But look, would YOU like to be locked up for the rest of your life thousand of miles away from your family and loved ones? "Her initial actions and reactions" are NOT what put her where she is today: THAT IS ANOTHER FORM OF BLAMING THE RAPE VICTIM FOR BEING RAPED!!! Amanda was targeted because she is the one who did not "lawyer up" the first day and because she is the American. Edgardo Giobbi - the chief police investigator - explicitly stated that she became the ONLY suspect BECAUSE SHE WAS EATING PIZZA!!! He BRAGGED about that!!! This case has made the Salem Witch Trials look like an episode of Perry Mason and Cotton Mather look like Hamilton Berger!

Praying that Amanda will come home soon. What a miscarriage of justice in this case. I do not forget her former bf who should also be released. May Meredith Kercher not be forgotten and her family find some peace in this nightmare. Pray for justice.

@Elmersmith..I am assuming you don't know squat about Amanda Knox or why she was called Foxy Knoxy? This young girl excelled in baseball or soccer/some sport and because she was a great player, she was dubbed by herself (?) or her coaches/friends,m "Foxy Knoxy." No one has forgotten that a beautiful young woman, a daughter, sister, etc. was murdered viciously.. All of those who believe that Amanda Knox is innocent (and from the circumstantial evidence, I say she is) have every empathy possible for the Kercher family and their loss of their beautiful daughter. Meredith will always be remembered by us..Our hearts continue to ache for her family if Amanda is In spite of that, Amanda Knox, an innocent young woman should not spend the rest of her life in an Italian prison for something they really can't prove she was a part of.. Circumstantial evidence, tainted DNA? I hope revenge hasn't taken over the mindset of the Kercher family and need to blame will not bring Meredith back..

Whoop, I am so irritated my fingers are not working and my discust for you makes me crazy when I comment! a. I meant to say I'm sure your neighbor's would confirm you are a gossip! b. I meant to say that you claim, from an "unconfirmed" report from a London newspaper that there is a private jet waiting for the Knox family at the airport! c. Kercher family was having trouble getting air tickets to attend the Friday trial! Well, they were there, weren't they?

All the people sniping at Amanda Knox, so certain she's guilty...if YOU were arrested, tried, and convicted on the 'evidence' presented in this case, you'd be screaming and crying and ranting about the injustice of it all. But it isn't happening to YOU, so go ahead and be all smug and judgemental. Come on, if a prosecutor in America so much as muttered the phrase 'Satanic ritual', the trial would be over and the prosecutor kicked out of his job.

Hopefully Italy justice system will keep Knox locked up for the next 20 plus years. Knox helped take a innocent life and now hopefully Justice will be served for the poor innocent girl family that had no chance. Meredith Kercher family deserves to have justice served.

"Amanda Knox is no doubt spending an agonizing weekend in prison. What do you say when you are fighting for your life, your freedom?" says Linda Byron of KING5. Knox is not fighting for her life . . . it was Meredith that fought for her life and lost. Knox is fighting and praying for freedom. That is very different than fighting for your life. Meredith never had a chance. Knox has had two chances and, if not successful, she has a third chance. I hope justice prevails whatever that justice is. I have no idea if Knox is guilty or innocent. She may be guilty of a lesser charge. Her initial actions and reactions are what put her where she is today. I hope every U.S. student planning to study or travel abroad is told the Amanda Knox story about how not to act when in a foreign country. You must respect the customs and laws of your host country.

Since female murdering female accounts for only 2.4% of all murders, mathematics tell us that there is a 97.6% chance Amanda is innocent.
