SEATTLE – Drivers in Broadway Avenue will see more traffic and construction now that the Seattle Department of Transportation has announced plans to extend the First Hill Streetcar project through the center of Capitol Hill.

The original plan was for the streetcar to connect Pioneer Square to the International District up to the hospitals on First Hill. SDOT has secured an extra $3 million to extend the line from Denny Way to East Roy Street.

Some business owners in the area worry the project will take away parking and impact traffic. City Councilman Tom Rasumussen says it will ultimately be a boost to business, bring in more foot traffic and be a good alternative.

The city is holding a planning meeting and open house for the public Thursday at the Silver Cloud Hotel at 1100 Broadway from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
