One person was killed and four rooms were seriously damaged in a fire at Sunset Motel in Kent Tuesday morning.
According to the Kent Fire Department, the death occurred in the room where the fire started at 25006 Pacific Highway South
Charles Grina and Denise Woodard smelled smoke and tried to help.
"I was pounding on number three to wake them up,” said Denise.
Charles says the night manager also tried to help, opening the door of the room.
"Once our night manager opened that door, smoke, fire and then there was a boom!” said Charles.
Kent Police Assistant Chief Pat Lowery can't confirm the victim's identity, but said officers have been at the unit before.
"We've been out here for a couple of different things, but we're not putting out the nature of it until we know who's inside,” said Lowery.
Lowery expects the identity to be released Tuesday or Wednesday.
The cause is still under investigation.
