FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – A 17-year-old suspect was shot once after trying to get away from Federal Way Police early Sunday.

Police say the teen-ager and another person were in a stolen Lincoln SUV. Police attempted to arrest him at the corner of 333rd Southwest and 24th Avenue Southwest.

When the driver saw police, he tried to get away and hit two police cars in the process.

"Once the vehicle took off he actually ended up ramming one of the Federal Way police cars, forced his way out of there where they were and took off down the street where he rammed another Federal Way police car," said Paul Cline, Renton Police Dept. Division Commander.

At that point, police fired into the vehicle. The 17-year-old was shot once in the arm.  He was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Police say the teen has an extensive criminal history and is a convicted felon.

A search is on for the other person.

The Federal Way officers involved in the shooting were put on paid administrative leave, which is normal procedure.

Should have checked his record my mistake. However, I still find the comment offensive. Cops don't like to kill unless they have to. So life w/o parole sounds good. And a word of thought. I've been in combat and have had to kill. I still have nightmares about it to this day. Enemy or not killing a human being plays a good one on the mind. So don't go telling the LEO's that they should have killed the kid.

graham that comment was not called for. He's 17 for one and we all do stupid things as kids. He should be punished. But wishing he'd been "rubbed out" is not only cruel but OFFENSIVE.

To the idiot who says "back to the range", when a bullet strikes a vehicle or another hard surface it reacts differently.... this bullet was probably the only one that went through, depending on the caliber certain bullets work better on different surfaces.

Maybe they wanted to avenge the death of an officer.Instead of trying to kill someone they should just get out of the way.Now they get another vacation for pulling the trigger.

@DAKOTANATIVE. You are wishing death just like the rest of the people on here that are worse than the criminal.Stealing a car is nothing versus someone dying.Dont butter yourself up and then join the group

I don't wish death on anyone, so I will wish better aim next time for the officers. Steal my car or anything in it and you better hope the cops get to you first.

I was starting to feel sorry for the kid, only 17, but an extensive record already and a convicted felon? Glad they winged him then, maybe it'll teach him a lesson.

The arm...that sucks.....try the head next time. When are they gonna learn, ram a patrol car or try an drun over a police officer.....expect to get shot. Its unfortunate this idiot will live to re-offend. The democrats in Olympia are doing a great job at stopping them. (Sarcasm)

The only reason there is not a big show of support for the unfortunate young innocent man is because he only got shot in the arm. His parents have no doubt got a tenth mortgage on their house to get their thieving son out of the little thieves facility for the 100th time. He will no doubt be found behind the steering wheel of yet another stolen car in the next few weeks. Too bad you can't shoot while trying to escape sometimes.

The News Tribune reports from the scene that a Federal Way police officer who was holding a perimeter position nearby the scene was found dead in his patrol car several hours after the shooting. At this point, the department says there are no signs of foul play but the investigation is continuing. The officer was descried as a 35 year old, four-and-a-half-year veteran of the department.

It would be interesting if the media follow up on this cretin. Already a convicted felon at 17??? For stealing a car and then ramming police cars, I'd bet he'd maybe get a year in jail, out in 8 mo.

What the hell? More coddling of criminals. Shoot to kill next time. With our state budget in turmoil, we don't need the extra expense of trials and incarceration for these animals.

That should be multiple counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon (the car) and the suspect(s) should face the same penaties as if they had killed the officers. They need to be punished to the extremity of the law.! 20 years minimum w/no chance of parole. Either that or empty your clips, Officers. Bullets are cheap!
