FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A Federal Way policeman died on duty while working at the scene of an officer-involved shooting.

Police say the 34-year-old officer was found collapsed in his patrol car and pronounced dead around 7:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police say that the cause of death is unknown but there were no signs of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The police shooting occurred earlier in the morning as officers tried to apprehend a suspected car thief.

The deceased officer had served with the Federal Way force for 4 1/2 years and is survived by his wife and two children.

This cop was thin and in real good shape. Kinda dispells the thugs talking on this blog. To them I say sorry you broke the law and were jailed for your crimes. That is the only exlanation for your insults, unless of course your three years old. This officer wasnt involved in the call at all he wasnt hit by the bad guy, Read the official press release and you will understand more. thanks for the supporters out there we def need you

A sudden death by a young man is a clear sign of cocaine abuse. Heart attacks don't normally happen at that age, but cocaine causes death by sudden heart stoppage. The pig was dirty. Goodbye and good riddance.

There was no parking space near my work this morning, so I'm in bad mood. Thus, I'm going to say something really mean. All overweight police officers must be fired! If you can't outrun a criminal, then, what good are you???

I'm not doctor but I got a feeling this was something he may have been born with and knew nothing about. MY PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO THE FWPD AND THE OFFICERS FAMILY. Way too young to die.

steelcop, you apparently know this officer. I know you can't say much but could you dispel what a lot of commenters on various local media sites are saying? Some are convinced this officer was overweight and out of shape and therefore died of that. I don't think this, seeing as he was in the Air National Guard too. lundgren, I wonder about that too, if his car, with him in it, was one of them hit by bad guy. What might feel like a minor neck or head injury could be spinal cord damage, and the cord as it runs through the neck affects respiration. I wonder if he just stopped breathing. Speculation, I know. RIP Officer, and condolences to FWPD, family and friends :(

Actually, according to KOMO, some car thief hit Federal Way patrol cars before he got shot. So the officer might have been brain-damaged at that time.

Two possibilities: One, a hard right cross or a left hook to his jaw the previous night. Two, too much drinking on Saint Paddy's day.

Another one gone, sad to hear this. Here in Ohio we just buried one of our local police officers who responded to a call and was shot down. There will be no trial, the shooter is dead as well.

I will pray for his soul..and for his family. This kind of thing usually turns out to be some heart abnormality he probably never knew he had.

Wow. This is very sad... Police departments in Washington have been sustaining hit after hit after hit lately in different ways. Being shot, killed in car accidents, motorcycles, and now this. The general public and local churches are reaching out to police departments in their "season of adversity." I just hope that police departments will clean up their image and hopefully win people over, that don't think very much of police officers due to many years of abuse of power in regards to minorities. Why is this important? Because many people are sad and supportive when police officers are killed, but there are also people that are not. This needs to change.

What the hell? Thats weird. However, one of my best friends literally dropped dead of a heart attack 3 yrs ago while going through boxes in the garage to put up x-mas lights, he was 5 days shy of turning 39.
