A Pierce County man has been booked into jail for suspicion of killing his 2-year-old daughter.
Around 11am, the 26-year-old called 911 to report he had just killed his daughter and was prepared to take his own life.
When deputies arrived at the apartment in the 2400 block of 96th St. S. near Parkland, they say the father answered the door with a dog leash around his neck used in an apparent suicide attempt. Officials said the leash was so tight it had to be cut off his neck.
Officials say the man admitted he suffocated his daughter in a rocking chair, then placed her body back in her room.
“Im still shaking,” said Dorothy Aubrey. She lives in an adjacent apartment and says her daughter is friends with the girl’s mother.
Aubrey says the father and mother were in the process of separating after the mother recently found inappropriate Facebook messages between her husband and another woman.
The mother was living with her parents and Aubrey says the father asked to watch their daughter for the day.
“Then two hours later she gets this call. She collapsed right here in the parking lot,” she says.
Pierce County Sheriff’s officials say the father spent a night in a mental hospital in January after he attempted suicide.
