PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Law enforcement officers in Port Angeles are angry that someone broadcast a false report of an "officer-involved shooting" over a police radio frequency.

The hoax call Saturday night came nearly a week after four police officers were gunned down in a Tacoma suburb.

The Peninsula Daily News says the false report from an unknown source was made over the Port Angeles police radio frequency and said the shooting had occurred at a city restaurant. Officers from the police department and three other agencies converged on the restaurant with guns drawn, but found no crime had been committed.

Police Deputy Chief Brian Smith says a criminal investigation has been opened and investigators are determined to find who was responsible.

The odds that they will be caught are low unless they are stupid enough to do it again. Here's why: In order for them to be caught they will have to setup listening stations to record where the signal comes from, assuming the person is dumb enough to do it again, and then triangulate the signal's point of origin. It takes some reasonable equipment to do that which I'm not sure the Port Angeles police dept has.

I'm not sure what Mayor Nickels had to do with whoever these idiots were. It must be some kind of crime to use police frequencies besides just being in very poor taste!

It is my opinion that people will remember Mayor Nickels as the man who tried to further his political career at the expense of his community...
