E.T., the walrus who came to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium as an orphan 32 years ago, is once again in "guarded" condition, zoo officials say.

The 32-year-old walrus was sick with a gastrointestinal problem for a week last month but had improved and went back on exhibit on May 26.

On Monday, the zoo said veterinarians were administering fluids and medications.

E.T. was orphaned as a calf on Alaska’s North Slope. He was just a few months old when he arrived at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in the summer of 1982. In his three decades at the zoo, he has become a much-loved Tacoma icon.
