SEATTLE – Dick's Drive-in, a Seattle hamburger institution, announced Monday it is going to open a new restaurant for the first time in 36 years.

But first, it wants the public's input on where the new joint should be.

"We are considering areas both within the city of Seattle and outside the city of Seattle for the new drive-in. So, anything within 20 miles of the University of Washington is fair game," said Dick's Vice-President Jim Spady.

Dick's has set up a poll for new locations at its website.

Dick's started in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood in 1954, selling 19 cent hamburgers and 11 cent French fries. Its other locations are in Crown Hill, Queen Anne, Capitol Hill and Lake City.

The new restaurant will employ about 20 people. Dicks has a reputation for offering higher-than-normal fast food wages plus great benefits and scholarship programs for employees.

I was pretty much raised on Dick's Burgers (1954 until now), love um. Wallingford, Lake city, and Crown hill (Ballard) are the three that I visited most, & still do. I now live in Lynnwood about 1 mile north of where the new Edmonds Dick’s is opening and can’t wait. 2 Dick's Deluxe and a Strawberry shake please.

DICK'S Drive In is the heart of growing up in North Seattle. It is an Icon. I would give my eye teeth to have one in Walla Walla Wa and I can think of many others here who know and love Dick"s. PLEASE put it here we have NOTHING but high end yupee restaurants!!! We need some good old burgers and the BEST fries and sauce there is here. Not to mention the ice cream cones =)

White trash burgers is all they are, must be owned by the cheapest POS in the world as well to have the nerve to charge for friggin ketchup. Go to Tacoma Dick, I'm sure you'll be loved there.

The best place to locate the new restaurant would be in Gig Harbor. Out in the new shopping area by Target and Home Depot. There will be a lot of growth there. The only hamburger place is McDonald's and we need a more upscale place.

Dear washingtonian The word is nutricional, use spellcheck. And secondly Dicks has been around for 56 years, pretty sure they are not going to go out of business.

Great burger for kids but adults have better taste. It is sticking within 20 miles so they can milk the nastalgic crowd; it wouldn't make it outside 20 mile radius. Way too many good burger joints that make great burgers actually worth the money & worth eating.

@TOMMA206.......I like Spud's....also, I think that area of Alki is too small for a Dick's.....Again, over by Salty's, where there could be a large parking area. The parking right at the beach can be a nightmare....so I think head south a bit. I need a Deluxe NOW!!!!!!!!

Dick's is a SEATTLE institution and should stay that way. West Seattle, to me would be the best location for the new store....somewhere between Salty's and the bridge... a bit away from the beach. GOD, that would be awesome!

Go where the people are! Renton, Tukwila or Federal Way! Close to the freeway where there is easy access to & from. It's all about Convenience! The more convenient equals more business.

The South End is the last frontier for Dick's. The BEST places would be Renton, on Grady Way by the freeway. Kent off of I-167 at the exit for 84th street, Auburn off of Ellingston Road and A Street south.

Hope those able to vote (not me, so far) pick a great location, because Dick's web server is absolutely SLAMMED. For purely selfish reasons I'd love to see a Dick's restaurant down by the stadiums, but with so many burger outlets already in the SODO 'hood--both national and local--I don't see that happening. Second choice would be somewhere in West Seattle, ideally around Alki. Like Spuds it would do great down by the water.

The South end is the perfect/ best and most logical location for a new Dick's. We in the South end love Dick's but we have to drive to the North end to find one. That's right, all (ALL 5) of Dick's drive ins are located from Central Seattle up to Northgate. We deserve at least 1 in the South end. Anywhere would do. Federal Way, Southcenter, Puyallup (south hill). Lots of good locations down here for hungry hungry (Dick's burger hungry) Southenders. We want Dicks bad down here Can't wait. Drooling I am. Signed. What is wrong with you people cant you read. 20 MILES from UW. Half of the places you people want it arent 20 miles away, its kind of pointless to suggest it dont you think? And bellevue yeah not sure it would do good there with all the health nuts, and southcenter would be awesome but dicks is there to help college students mostly. But i do have to agree by the airport would be a smart business decision.

Another burger joint? Another assembly line burger joint? No thank you... There is nothing unique or special about Dick's...in fact, the one time I ate there, I decided that I really didn't need to eat burgers out anymore. If I want one, I make one at home... They can put it anywhere they like and continue to perpetuate obesity in America, one greasy burger at a time...

You pretty much can't go anywhere across a floating bridge without be bombarded by Dicks all around you. Heck, I haven't lived west of the mountains since the mid-90s and I'm still pretty sure I'm spot-on with this one....
